BB.com Fan Friday comment that I found interesting...

    "3 – Chris,
Thanks for the great coverage as always. My question regards our offseason needs as we have a few, OG,OT,LB and a big wide out. These holes will be filled with a mix of the draft and free agency most likely. Where do you believe we will choose to go with youth versus veteran experience?
We have a pretty young receiver group as well as a young potential star at middle linebacker in Kiko it’d be nice to see some solid veterans thrown into the mix. But I can’t argue trying to grab another young stud linebacker in the draft either along with an offensive lineman. Also who do you believe has the best shot to have an impact at one of these positions of need who may already be in house I know there’s a few candidates.(Elliot,Unga,Asper etc.) Looking forward to your thoughts thanks again.
    Will, GO BILLS!
CB: I think your reasoning makes sense, but what you want to do is often affected by what’s available in terms of talent. When it comes to linebacker I get the sense that the team would prefer to move Kiko Alonso out to the weak side where they can take better advantage of his athleticism and coverage ability. That would mean a middle linebacker would need to be plugged in.
Buffalo was fortunate that they had a rookie in Alonso who was able to learn and call a new defense as a rookie at the mike spot. That doesn’t always happen, so I’m inclined to think that they would want to add a veteran in free agency at that position. However, the market is particularly thin, which means the price tag on what the Bills might see as an affordable option (as Doug Whaley calls them, ‘dust settle’ guys) may not be if there are other teams competing for experienced LBs.
I could see the Bills adding a linebacker both in free agency and in the draft. They need bodies at that position.
At receiver another rookie is probably not the way to improve the offense sooner rather than later. They need a player who has produced in the past and has adapted to different offensive systems before. Buffalo invested a pair of high picks at the receiver position last year (2nd and 3rd round) so I’d be surprised if they go that route again, especially early.
Offensive tackle is where I expect them to turn to the draft for help. There’s good talent at the top of the draft and with some QB hungry teams ahead of Buffalo in round one some great talent could fall to them at nine.
Guard is a position where I think they will plug in the best talent they can find. They have some players in house who they believe have starter potential, but they might add a stop gap free agent veteran to hold down the fort until they feel comfortable enough to plug in one of the prospects that you mentioned."

    Dear Yardie and Clump,

This makes it look like you were right. Kiko outside, cheaper MLB... Brandon Spikes. OT at 9... Could be Lewan. Matthews and Robinson are possibilities. Maybe no G at all... I bet they add one in the first three rounds. just my opinion. It doesn't rule out an OLB at 9 especially if they get someone like Spikes before the draft. Mack and Barr would be in play still.

    Interesting comments.

I know all you guys like Spikes as a MIKE but he has zero coverage ability are there any vet Mikes that can cover a little?

I do agree with CB that we will probably draft a LB as well.

I would also expect a Boundary corner or even two this draft class, our outside corners cost us the first jets game.

seems likely the bills to be more aggressive than expected on a free agent lb if they plan to shift kiko over. they really cant afford not to have someone solid there or it wastes the advantage of moving their roy from the position he won it from

now the ques is which ones can they realistically get?

      Jon Beason Giants $3,250,000
      Karlos Dansby Cardinals $2,250,000

Dansby would be my top pick if it weren't for age. Spikes is really my next pick. DJ Williams is a possibility. I do like Angerer but he really can't stay healthy and was replaced by Sheppard... Eesh. I know that Angerer is better than Sheppard.

That's the point. He's a specialist. On passing downs he's riding pine and the same personnel as last year is on the field. On running downs we are daring them to pass against a dline and secondary that was near the top of the league in forcing mistakes (TO and sacks).

Teams trying to grind out a running game with Kiko, Spikes and a Dline with the best and 7th best DT in the NFL, plus MArio williams who finished 5th for tackles for a loss... well that team is going to really struggle.

I've bolded and ordered guys I think are possibilities. Angerer is my top choice of the bolded but if had to chose the guy want the most it be Donald Butler but think he'll be highly pursued. Yet the as referred to before is the issue with Angerer is injuries. Guys like Vilma, DJ Williams and Lenon is they're all older and past their prime but might be able to provide veteran savvy like London Fletcher did for the Redskins. Speaking of which I bolded Riley of the Skins. He's younger like Angerer but not sure he's athletic enough to be a great MLB but he has put up strong tackle numbers in a 3-4. I'm not a fan of Dan Connor but think he's a veteran backup type that would consider adding for depth. The one guy who stands out the most though is Vilma as Marrone is familiar with him with their Jets ties and he has played in both a 3-4 and 4-3 so might bring some versatility toss in playing under Gregg Williams might have him somewhat prepared to play under Schwartz so he maybe the ideal fit. Yet DJ Williams is bigger and maybe a better player with them both 10 years into their careers but he's a risk because of he's been suspended for drug issues and might be one strike away from a year long suspension. Lenon spent some time with the Lions in the preseason last year so might have some knowledge of Schwartz but being he didn't last long there might be a reason for it.

Everything I've read says that Jordan's contract is up so yep he's an UFA. Not a bad idea but think Reid likes him since he brought him in from Philly to KC.

Chad Greenway could be a cap casualty for the Vikes. I wouldn't be surprised if the Bills take a look at him now with the signing of Pagac if he's released.

I'd love that move but he won't come cheap. We like cheap.
