MLB is a now a need considering the possibility of moving Kiko to the outside. Schwartz may want a run stuffer. Spikes name has been thrown around a lot. Loved him in that Florida 5-2 D. I thought he would be better against the pass since he had some much ground to cover in college. He fits the need to stuff the run. Will he be cheap enough?
This article has a nice breakdown on Spikes:
This says a contract like Koa Misi's may be the market for Spikes... 4 years at 17 mill. I'd do that in a heart beat for him. I think he can be had for under 5 mill per in cap space.
I realize many think he's a liability in pass coverage but let's not forget we have other players that can rotate in on passing downs. Kiko is more than mobile enough to help cover the middle and we have two S's that are converted CB's. I'm not that concerned about his coverage ability. Adding a run stuffer is very important to our future success IMO.
Then there is the issue about his mental markup. He was late due to snow. Belichump benched him basically. He skipped a voluntary workout. His right, he's not the first guy to do that. He also is a emotional leader who will get the players fired up. The question is whether Marrone will see him as a team first guy who he can count on to be a solid leader both on and off the field.
The knee injury appears to not require surgery so it may be a non-issue.
Like I said, I'd go after him. But will the Bills?
