He lost to Sheldon Richardson yesterday. One of the biggest hose jobs ever. If Richardson was a Bill he wouldn't have gotten a vote. If Kiko was a Cowbay he would have been in the running for NFL MVP.
Richardson - 78 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 FF, 0 INTs

Kiko tailed off at the end, but this was an epic hose job.

While I think that Alonso should have been the DROTY, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Richardson winning it. He was a cornerstone in what might have been the best front-7 in all of football.Comment

I think Kiko was getting by on a 4 or 5 game stretch that he had early in the season.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have him and I think he is one of the better young defenders in the league, but I think his gap control left a lot to be desired by the end of the season.
He missed a couple of assignments that allowed the other RB to rip off huge runs because he was trying to make the tackle rather than allowing the play to flow to the outside where his teammate can make the tackle.
It's something that can easily be fixed and I think he will fix with some more experience.
I believed all along that Richardson deserved the honour, but I was still rooting for Kiko.Comment

Kiko Alonso did win the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) DROY award and Richardson won the Associated Press (AP) DROY award. I'm sure the Super Bowl being played in New Jersey helped Richardson, who is a New Jersey Jet, get votes.Comment

I don't think that you're giving Richardson enough credit. Where the Super Bowl was played had absolutely nothing to do with it, the guy was not only one fo the top rookies, but he was one of the top DL in football.Originally posted by kishoph View PostComment

Look Richardson had a great year. It sucks because I thought Alonzo did a lot better and was more deserving because he not only had great stats but also called the defense.
I dont think the writers took that into consideration.
That being said we really cannot argue as Richardson was a force on the jets d.Comment

Richardson had a great year, but best front 7 in football? Negative. Kiko got the hose, but the Reed enshrinement on the same day eased the pain.
