'Mad Dog' Douglass finally gets his due

The Green Bay Packers made out like bandits in the fifth round of the 2000 NFL draft when they selected a little-known defensive end from San Diego State with a complicated last name.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila turned out to be a steal. To get him, all the Packers had to do was return to the scene of a crime they committed 22 years earlier when they stole another impact defensive player from the same school, in the same round and with the same track record for corralling quarterbacks.

His name was Mike Douglass. Not the movie star/director who played slimy Gordon Gekko in "Wallstreet" or the old talk-show host from the 1970s. This Mike Douglass was merely one of the finest tacklers in the long and distinguished history of the Green Bay Packers.

Douglass, a ballhawking linebacker, and Gbaja-Biamila, a pass-rushing terror who went on to break Douglass's school sack record at San Diego State, were different types of players who competed in different eras on teams with different success rates. But, chances are Gbaja-Biamila wouldn't mind ending up in the same place as Douglass: the Green Bay Packer Hall of Fame.
