Contract delays sign of the times

The Cowboys are likely to sign their first draft pick sometime this morning. Their No. 1 pick is going to take a little more time.

Yes, the last usually come first when it comes to signing draft picks, and the Cowboys are no exception.

A deal with seventh-round selection Justin Bates is all but signed, and the Cowboys are making headway with sixth-round pick, Zuriel Smith. But not unlike previous years, the going is slow with cornerback Terence Newman, whom the Cowboys selected fifth overall in April's draft.
