His skill set is better in a 3-4 as he could rush the passer ala Aldon Smith and Von Miller in a 3-4 where if he plays in the 4-3 he be more responsible for making tackles. I've read he compares to Robert Quinn but not sure as Quinn played DE in college and asking Mack to play DE doesn't feel right to me.
