    Nolan talks about long-term deal

BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo Sabres appear close to reaching a long-term agreement with interim coach Ted Nolan.

Nolan told reporters after practice Monday that he has handed a contract offer to his representative.

"I put it into my representatives hands. I guess him and [Sabres GM] Tim [Murray] will be talking soon, if not already. It's just a formality, them getting a few things ironed out," said Nolan.

    Good.

he's earned it, and I'm glad he's going to be the Sabres coach for the foreseeable future.

Shows you how little I actually watch hockey, but wasn't he also here in the mid nineties? I remember their coach at the time always having passion. IIRC those were some very underrated clubs.

Well documented but I will explain.

He was the Sabres coach for two seasons in the mid 90s. Had a bad first year and a good second year winning the division and he won the Coach of the Year award. Had issues with upper management and star player Dominick Hasek. Many rumors are out there on why. The GM was fired after all of this and when new GM Darcy Regier came aboard, he offered Nolan a one year contract extension (because Nolan's original two year contract was ending) which Nolan rejected.

              lafontaine can go suck it.

he pussed out in a major way.

and it's not the first time.

he will never get a team executive job again.

TSN's Bob McKenzie just sent this tweet: "Ted Nolan's 3 year contract with Buffalo in hands of lawyers. Contract language still being finalized. Not 'done' quite yet."
John Hemingway(facing certain death): I want to see Buffalo win the Super Bowl.
David Coltrane(threatening John): Nobody's going to live that long, pal.

Isn't McKenzie just repeating what Nolan said 3 or 4 days ago?

I think Nolan is the right guy for the Sabres over the next 4-5 years. There is going to be a lot of losing in those years and consistency in coaching is important during those tough years. No other NHL team will touch Nolan and he knows it. He will give his all to the Sabres.

Once this team is good again in 5+ years, the team will need another coach who can bring the Sabres into contending status.

                              Nolan can't do that.
