First 48-72 Hours of FA - Prudent To Watch From The Sidelines

Bargains for depth..but this class as a group isn't that good at all. OT's will be vastly overpaid. Just draft one early in May.

Watch Miami win the media trophy again for FA "Winners". Headlines with big spending in March, lose to Chad Lewis twice in the fall. Awesome.

Hope to find a OG, ILB and some general depth. There will be tons of vet WR's and RB's seeking a paycheck over the next few months. No rush there.

Detroits Shawn Hill as a backup QB.

What will be interesting is to get a handle on how desired some of the guys like are...

How fast do teams line up for Brandon Spikes?

    Or even Byrd?

I'm OK with bargains for depth, but I'd like to get a starter at MLB and Oline.

Ditto...but my memory of the big splashy headlines for Derrick Dockery and Langston Walker are still fresh. Wait a few days until the market is realistic.

ILB like Spikes...yes, I could see that.

I'm assuming you mean Thad Lewis.
            I came.

Agreed. Plus, it would be fun reading all the posts about the Bills doing nothing.

Re: First 48-72 Hours of FA - Prudent To Watch From The Sidelines

Spikes is hardly a top tier free agent. He's useless to a lot of teams. His coverage is awful, think drunk Poz with a gimpy ankle. Most offenses use three wide more than than their base set, so he's probably less than 50% of playing time for most teams.

But for us, he's the guy that shoots the gap on 3rd and 2 and gets us off the field. He's the guy that stops the RB at 1 yard after he finds a cutback seam. He's the guy that sheds the guard and makes a tackle turning a 20 yard gain into a 3 yard gain.

Just because he fits us well, and as Bills fans our expectations are towards 2nd and 3rd tier guys like him, doesn't mean he's going to be expensive or in demand. Ideally, you want a guy like him that can cover a little bit too, that's what other team's are looking for. We're settling for a specialist that can be exploited by opposing OC's that possess some brains. And that's still an improvement.

Starter at G and RT and MLB. Frees up draft for playmakers on Offense and secondary

The Bills would have won 8 games without the services of one Jeff Tuel IMO.

I don't want Legurski's starting for us when season starts. We need an OL that can impose it's even when defenses play to stop the run .

Bucs just signed Michael Johnson for 24 mill guaranteed, 43 mill total over 5 years. Thats too much - he isnt elite IMO

You can't sit on the sidelines the first couple days if you're looking for starters.

If you wait a few days to start signing people and they end up starters, you're making lateral moves that don't make the team any better.

Depth is fine down the line and doesn't need to be addressed today or tomorrow.
