BB.com's assessment of how FA has affected the top 10 in the draft

If you're a Watkins at 9 fan the Rams, Oakland, and Bucs didn't address WR adequately yet.

WR (probably Evans) or OT are still possibly most likely at 9.

Minnesota had a good FA take imo. Particularly if you like Cassel.

The Bills did NOT do poorly. Resigning Carpenter and Chandler should shut up those complaining about not resigning our own. OTHER teams lost players the caliber of Byrd too. So the Bills are not in a class by themselves. Byrd had positives (knack for the ball), but was not the fastest guy in the world. We'll get over that loss. Forget Rivers for a minute, if Williams and Graham contribute then the Bills did alright. Or, at least, about as well as should be expected. And they're not done probably.

Have to wonder if the Carolina Panthers will make a play to trade up for a WR. They lost Steve Smith, Ted Gin and now the Patriots have signed Brandon LaFell.

Their top 3 WRs of 2013 gone.

I feel good about the Bills being able to steal a top 5 talent at 8. Jacksonville and Cleveland are almost guaranteed to draft a QB. And Houston, Oakland and Minnesota are strong possibilities for QBs. Three QBs in the top 7 pushes one of the top guys (Clowney, Mack, Mathews, Watkins, Robinson) to the Bills. All the Bills have to do is not blow it and draft Evans or some DB.

Apparently the Panthers don't have a single wideout on the roster right now who caught a pass last year.

Any pass. From any QB. Wow.

Watkins will go in the first 4 picks.

                  That's hard to fathom.

I wonder if the rookie cap factors in . Move'em on and replace with fresh (inexpensive) meat. The card-carrying tightwad owner in my town let 4 players walk, and will likely pocket a fistful of comp picks.

I wouldn't say that for sure. As each of the teams in the top 4 has a young developing WR (Houston has Hopkins, St. Louis has Austin, Jacksonville has Blackmon and Cleveland has Gordon). Oakland could take him at pick 5 but they're always a wild card. After that you could make the case of him sliding as Atlanta has Julius Jones, Tampa Bay doesn't have anyone young but did lock up Mike Williams to a lengthy contract a few years back and of course Minnesota has Coradelle Patterson. I doubt Watkins falls to the Bills based on some Tim Brown comparisons but it's not far fetched if you really look who's drafting in front of us.

Not to say that we've addressed all of our needs but I do like how we have plugged in gaps at guard, LB, and CB this offseason. I'd like to think we can go after a somewhat luxury pick at #9. I'd like to see us draft Ebron, the TE from UNC. It would give EJ a nice target that can stretch the middle of the field and hopefully also open things up for SJ, Graham, and Goodwin.
