I had colon cancer surgery in nov 2011, went back of check up one year late and it had returned. Surgery again in 2012 followed this time with 28 radiation treatments and 6 months of chemo. If my pussy ass can do this Jim has it licked! #onetoughbastard!

That's bull****. What the hell were the doctors doing? How could they let it get that far? Especially since he's already had cancer. My mom and cousin both have had bouts with cancer and they go every three months for check ups.

A friend of Mine's Dad is ridled with Cancer but he's considered stable, I'm not sure as to how aggressive Jim's cancer is nor his ability to get certain levels of treatment. All things being equal, they're watching him real close & no matter what happens they'll work on curing him to no end. I hope for the best for him & can see a day he's better, I pray for him.

Last May, my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Had surgery and they thought they had gotten it all. Tested, no signs of anything new. October, he had a 9cm mass hear his kidneys. Chemo and radiation followed and before he could start the platinum chemo, he developed an infection in late January that antibiotics and his weakened immune system could not fight. The cancer spread to his liver and spine. My father passed away 2 weeks ago. I pray for Jim. He's the toughest athlete I've ever seen. May dad was the toughest man I ever knew.

http://bills.buffalonews.com/2014/03/24/john-elway-1983-classmate-jim-kelly-words-dont-describe-sadness/

ORLANDO, Fla. -- John Elway saw Jim Kelly just two weeks ago in Vail, Colo. They were there for a speaking engagement with Joe Montana, three Hall of Fame quarterbacks with a lot to feel thankful for.

But Kelly wasn't feeling well. He complained of pain in his restructured upper jaw, where he had a cancerous tumor removed in June.

"It's sad to me to hear what's taken place since two weeks ago," Elway, the Denver Broncos' executive vice president of football operations, said today at the NFL's annual owners meetings. "From what I understand it's not a good report."

Kelly's family and friends have been asking for prayers since it was revealed 10 days ago his cancer has returned. They insist the Buffalo Bills legend needs a miracle.

His wife, Jill Kelly, posted on her blog Friday that the cancer is "aggressive and starting to spread." Jim Kelly reportedly returned to New York City today for another surgery.

Kelly's family has posted online photos of his daughters lying beside him in his hospital bed. There have been lighter moments, too, smiling with Hall of Fame teammates Thurman Thomas, Andre Reed and Bruce Smith.
Hopefully, we get that miracle," Elway said. "He's one of my contemporaries, a guy I've always had deep respect for. It's very, very said to hear.

"Words don't describe the sadness."

my wife and I spent an evening about 6-7 years ago with Jim and his whole family at his house out in Chesiden Lake. The party was four his brother, Ray's, 50th birthday roast. Jim's dad was there, as well as all his brothers, and about 50 other people. It was quite possibly one of the best nights of my life. Jim treated me and my wife like we belonged (even though we were invited by a friend that worked with Ray). I felt like i was close to greatness all night, as he was the guy i grew up cheering for, feeling for, and aspiring to be.. I will never forget it. We were there from about 7pm till about 2am.. i woke up the next morning and felt like i had one the lottery.. His brother Dan let me try on one of Jims AFC Championship rings (he gave ever one of those rings to brothers btw which goes to show what kind of guy he was).

This news makes me sad. Sad for Jim's family, sad for his fans, and especially sad for him. Its ****ty to think about... all the great things he has done, not just for the Bills, or the city of Buffalo, but families all around the world who have sick kids and he gets this kind of raw deal.

I dont believe in god but i do believe that the impact you make on those around you carries on and he definetly made an impact on me.

Best of luck, Jim. I'm pulling for you.

I had an old friend from the bar business named Norm. One Bills game, around 1995, maybe 96, Norm, whom I hadn't seen in a few years, sat behind me and another friend at a Bills game. Norm had his son with him, who was around ten years old.

Although I hadn't seen Norm in a while, I was aware that he had cancer, and that he'd recently relapsed. I was headed to Jim Kelly's house for the post game party. On a whim, I asked Norm if he wanted to come, and bring his boy.

After a humiliating phone call to his ex-wife, he got "permission" to bring his kid to the party for 30 minutes.

I took Jim aside and told him who Norm was, and about his situation, and asked if he wouldn't mind saying hello. It would really mean a lot to Norm and the boy.

Not only did Jim stop to talk to my friends, he treated them like kings, bringing out autographed footballs, jerseys, you name it. And he spent real time talking to them. Not perfunctory chit chat.

That was the last time I ever saw Norm. He passed away a few months later. He told mutual friends that the day at JK's party was one of the best days of his life.

That's the kind of people the Kellys are. Real people. Salt of the Earth people. The kind you'd meet at a union hall or a church picnic. Jim and his family fit in here so well because they were just like us. They were Buffalo people.

There are plenty of party boy stories out there that are repeated ad nauseum. But I know many, many more stories that are too personal to share on message boards, but I can tell you that Jim and the Kellys treat friends like family members. Literally.

I don't know what's going to happen, but my prayers are with Jim and his loved ones, who are many, and all of whom are blessed to call him a friend.

In terms of keeping the Bills in Buffalo, Jim is just a cheerleader. Don't get me wrong- I have a lot of respect for the guy for a lot of different reasons.

But if the league or if the next owner decide they don't want the team in Buffalo, Jim doesn't have the authority or the financial backing to keep it from happening.

He does not have the authority or finances himself, but he does know a lot of people and is more than cheerleader. Could he do it? I don't know. But to dismiss that he does not know people that would provide financial backing is premature. You and I are cheerleaders. He is at least a step above that.

I think the only real difference is that he's famous- especially in WNY- so more people listen to him. I appreciate the efforts but in the end I don't think anything Kelly does will change the outcome. The team will either move or it won't and unfortunately Kelly can't change that. I certainly wish he could because we know what would happen- I just see no reason to believe that he can.

i think kelly's always had good presentation skills and has the swagger of being a leader. i think if a guy who buys into what kelly is selling, will give the team a shot with a charasmatic leader and a guy who knows the NFL.

Of course kelly doesn't have the money for it, but his sway and comfortability that he has the fans ear carries weight for the investors. The investors will find people who can run the team well and if they say "stay, lets see if we can make this work," then they will.

he isn't a miracle worker, but i think his presence is a huge piece to keeping the team here.

but first thing's first, get his health back.

This is true. However, I do believe that Ralph would share a succession plan with Jim that would keep the team in Buffalo. I think that's where the confidence comes from when Jim speaks about the team "not going anywhere."

Yeah, that's completely false, I've seen it with my own eyes, more than once.
1) Does seeing with your "own eyes, more than once" constitute "big time" as you claim? Just exactly how many times is "more than once"? How many times constitutes "big time"?
2) Given a choice of believing your words or JK's, there's zero question on which one I'm gonna say is full of ****.
3) Regardless of any of the above, it's poor taste to pile on like that.

Dr. Lecter

Since I actually know UJ, I can vouch that he would not make this up.

The fact is, much of what is put out about our favorite athletes is not always accurate or true. If he did chew on a regular basis, it no doubt increases the risks of oral cancers. just as smoking increases the risk og lung cancer and drinking increases the risks of numerous liver problems (i.e cirrhosis). It does not necessarily mean he deserves this and I am pretty we have all engaged in behavior that increases a risk of some sort.</SPAN>
As for it being in bad taste – why is it? The truth might be unpleasant but should not be considered in bad taste. </SPAN>

Yasgur's Farm

I consider it poor taste in that the tone I heard was basically "he has it coming". And while that may be true, the possibility remains that it may be false. In any event, our society turns too quickly to seeking someone to blame and forgetting about compassion for the "victim".

I was a smoker at one time. One of the biggest issues I had was that (aside from being made a criminal for legal activity) the medical community (including the docs) would be too quick to dismiss my symptoms as a byproduct of smoking. Diagnosis ended there with no opportunity to treat the actual cause.

Seriously. Going back and forth on this is pointless. If Kelly was a "dipper / tobacco" then I would hope he would come out and say it to help prevent even one person from followwing that path.

What caused his cancer is moot. He has it and it is progressing... He will have major reconstructive surgery. He will probably receive harsh chemo and, if he hasn't already had it prior, radiation.

I don't care if someone here doesn't believe me on this. I've seen it at multiple functions he's been at such as fundraisers, bars, etc. I also know a few people who have worked with the Bills for quite sometime, and have vouched this to me. Now, you can think that just the 10-12x I've seen him do it, were the only isolated times he dipped. That's fine. I highly doubt it.

I doubt his wife would be promoting his bad habit he had to everyone while he's in this condition. So I don't expect her to. I wouldn't.

Seriously. Going back and forth on this is pointless. If Kelly was a "dipper / tobacco" then I would hope he would come out and say it to help prevent even one person from followwing that path.

I'm willing to bet it will come out some day when this isn't such a sensitive topic. No is not the time, as lots of people would may change their tune and be less sympathetic if they know this could/is a contributing factor.

I obviously can't confirm his dipping is the reason he has the cancer. All I can confirm is he used to dip a lot.

Who cares how he got this ? I just want him to get better, like ASAP.

With things looking grim, I hope Ralph has made Jim a promise that the team is going to stay in town. I think after what Jim has done for the community & the team, he deserves some comfort in his life's work during some of his darkest hours.

Please Ralph, don't let this moment go by without some small piece of mind for Jim. If you have already, please disregard this request.

Geez, this was a 2-way street.

My wife Lynda and I are praying to God everyday for Jim and his family. We're having a real hard time with this one.
