Graham could be Byrd's replacement?

Re: Graham could be Byrd's replacement?
Robey was rated as one of the best slot CBs in the NFL last season, Graham was the best. If we have Graham at FS, Robey in the slot and Williams at SS, our nickel package can cover 5 WR's that's pretty interesting. If the LBs on the field are Kiko and Rivers we've got two LBs that can cover a TE at least for a few yards, so they're pretty good against various 3 WR and 4 WR sets too. Then Spikes comes back on the field for run downs.
I don't hate that.
I liked the Graham signing from the minute it was announced, and this sounds like it's worth testing in camp. Get some good players on the field.
still would have been better with Byrd.

But I expect him to play strong safety not free safety other than corner.

Good lord I thought this thread was about TJ GRAHAM. I would have believed the Bills would try something like that too.Over thinking, over analyzing, separates the body from the mind.

Williams has the skill set to play both. You don't need a traditional free or strong next to him, he can fill whatever roll is going to be needed. Duke, Searcy, and Graham will share snaps in different packages. Graham will play a ton next year though, I know that for sure.

It will be interesting to see how the backfield turns out. I'm not ready to anoint them yet - loss of Byrd, addition of Graham, Alonso's position change, new DC, and so on. Add in that one thing that makes gaudy pass defense numbers is a run D that is consistently getting pummeled as the opponents take the path of least resistance and don't bother passing as much. The reverse is also true - stiffen the run D, and watch'em ramp up the pass attack.
I think the distinction between FS and SS is fading, what with clubs running all these multiple WR sets including TEs splitting wide.Fiat justitia ruat caelum. Noli timere. Laus Deo.

So we signed a nickel CB to replace a Pro Bowl S? Brilliant.

Oh wait- it's 7 years later and we still have a logjam of mediocrity at WR.

It's highly unlikely that a nickel corner learning a new D and a new position is going to replace one of the top safeties in the league.
