View Full Version : Clarkson's contract is worse than Ville's!!!!

It appears to be the great, unkillable contract.

And the Toronto Maple Leafs gleefully signed all seven years and $36.75-million of it with free agent David Clarkson last summer.

You really don’t have to look much further than a few headlines at various media sources this week to know how the deal has turned out, as talk of a buyout has quickly spread online as the season winds down. One such report out of New Jersey, where Clarkson played the first seven years of his career, read “Should the Devils go after Clarkson if the Leafs buy out his contract?”

Another local report said there would be “serious discussions” by Leafs management over whether to dump the deal.

With many players in Clarkson’s situation, that would be a logical conversation, too. His goal in Tuesday’s win over the Calgary Flames was just his fifth of the season after 55 games, and his ice time has dwindled as coach Randy Carlyle has struggled to find a fit for him in the lineup.

In a season where much has gone wrong, Clarkson’s contract has been Toronto’s biggest catastrophe.

But even if the Leafs wanted to take the drastic step of buying out the last six years of it, they almost certainly won’t.

Because of the way the deal is structured – with more than 75 per cent of the money in irrevocable signing bonuses – Clarkson has the rare indestructible contract, one that guarantees him the vast majority of his money no matter what.

His contract is worse but he's still a better player than worthless ass Leino.

Leino has more points than he does in fewer games........

And Steven Stamkos has scored more goals for us this year than Leino

Buying out Clarkson would be monumentally stupid.

he didn't become a bad hockey player overnight.

He is lost in an organization that is lost.

Not to mention... he was suspended for the first 10 games of the season, Bolland's basically season long injury cannot be under-estimated, and Carlyle's total lack of ability in focussing this team into a cohesive unit.

All of those things IMO have contributed to Clarkson's failure in becoming a productive team member.

if they bought him out, how would you feel about the sabres bringing him in for the third line? i think id love it.

His current contract averages like $5.4 mil a year- if we want him as a third liner, he better take a pay cut.

I will not deny a desperate Sabres fan base the morale victory here -- Clarkson's deal is worse.

On a pure pay for production perspective... it's awful.

a couple things...

without Bolland... this roster is a paper tiger and Clarkson is lost among them.

Carlyle's coaching is beyond atrocious.

I don't hate Clarkson like the typical Laugh fan.

the organization and tough talent up the middle have doomed the team and Clarkson.

if they lose Bolland and Kulemin this offseason, they're even more ****ed.

If I were GM... Carlyle would be gone. I'd look to trade Kadri and Kessel to bring in a top pairing defensemen and a legitimate 2nd line center. I'd strip Phaneuf of the "C". I'd figure out a way to keep Bolland and prevent Kulemin from heading to the KHL.

He should be on a third line with Kulemin and Bolland.

expensive... Sure but a deep third line.

if hes bought out, id expect him to sign for a HUGE discount. and hes the kinda guy the sabres could use. he'd help the kids, and he'd help on the ice.

Maybe we could trade bad contracts. I would rather have Clarkson.
