PFT: Carlos Hyde, Austin Sefarian-Jenkins visit Bills on Friday

Carlos Hyde, Austin Sefarian-Jenkins visit Bills on Friday

The Bills were reportedly one of the teams contacted by the Titans about a trade for running back Chris Johnson before Johnson was released, but the Bills weren’t interested in pulling the trigger.

That doesn’t rule out adding a different running back to the mix, however. The Bills announced that they met with Ohio State running back Carlos Hyde on Friday, giving them a chance to find out more about one of the highest rated backs in this year’s draft. Neither Hyde nor any other back is seen as a surefire first-round pick, but he could be available when the Bills pick in the second round and would give them a different sort of runner than they have in C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson.

The Bills also met with Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who is also expected to be a second-round selection next month. Seferian-Jenkins wasn’t able to work out at his pro day or the combine because of a foot injury, but Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free-Press reports that he went through a private workoutwith the Lions. The Bills re-signed tight end Scott Chandler this offseason, but there’s a place in the offense for a target like Seferian-Jenkins.

Both players had some off-field trouble in college and that will likely be one of the topics of conversation during their meetings with Bills brass. The Bills also met with Liberty cornerback Walt Aikens on Friday.

I would love Hyde. The kid is a bruiser. Would probably be a 2nd rounder but he is definetly a different type of back.

I'm hoping we go OT and TE with our first two picks. I don't know why we didn't go after L. Blount. Would've filled a role and added great depth.

Kim Jones, A reporter for SNY or YES (I forget exactly) told NFLN that the Jets were very interested in Odell Beckham Jr last night. He would be a nice trade down target for the Bills. Although I have to admit, I'd rather see Woods & Goodwin rise into the one - two tandem in camp and stay there for years to come.

Goodwin will always be a sub package guy. That's not to say he can't be a game changer, but at his size it's tough to be an every down player. I love him stretching out defenses. He's just not in the same mold as Desean Jackson or Santana Moss in terms of being a complete player, and he was dinged up last year a few times in limited action.

Buddy seemed inclined to always lend his hand towards speed at the skill spots i.e. Spiller, Graham, Goodwin. Speed is great don't get me wrong, I think Whaley is really looking to bring in tough nosed, smash mouth guys in spots. Spikes is a great example of that, if Hyde or someone similar is drafted in round 2 or 3 I wouldn't be surprised.

Hyde would be great in a back field with CJ and Fred, but I think Whaley is looking to fill other spots.

I hate to be the guy sayin grade so and so, but CJ could be on the block. If Whaley can get a 2nd and a 4th or something similar I could see him moving. You can plug in a couple of young backs in the next couple of years and will see what happens with Fred after this year. It would be hard to imagine him bringing the same production in 2 years, running backs just aren't suppose to be productive at that age.

ASJ in Round 3 would be a hell of a lot better than Ebron at 9.

Agreed. But isn't he projected as going in round #2 by most draftniks?

Wouldn't be surprised to see them grab Hyde either.

I don't see ASJ getting out of round 2. Right ends that can make plays are too valuable, and at his size there will be a team who thinks their staff can light a fire under the kid to be a committed to serving as an asset as a blocker as well.

Actually starting to like Ebron more and more. Preferably I'm a trade down.

I'd guess that BUF would get takers - what with those 3 OTs, the quarterbacks the pundits talk about, and of course, Clowney and Mack. They claim it is a deep draft, so it's possible that other clubs won't feel they have unduly sacrificed for trading up.

There's a lot to like about Hyde. But QB Braxton Miller's rushing also got a lot of the opposition's attention.

Mixed bag and when you're dealing with character issue based prospects draftniks are the last people who would have a good idea on their stock. Its information that is impossible for them to get and they aren't in the prospects meetings to know how they are going.

I could see it considering he was being talked about a Top 20 guy before getting dismissed from UW, however character guys fall and they usually fall hard.

Oregon's Colt Lyerla would be another previously troubled TE I'd take all day over Ebron at 9.

I wrote a brand new program, based on probabilities derived from visits and draft picks over the past 10 years and it tells me 99 times out of a hundred that the Bills will draft Carlos LewanUnitas error in line 42 PornPalace invalid parameter so I see this visit as validation of the first names I typed in.

On the flip side then regarding Hyde, I'd love it if they had an authoritative back, there aren't many anymore unless you roll dice on a seldom used fullback. Makes me giddy when I think of how Fred Jackson's career would have gone if he was 20 lbs bigger.

It's an interesting due diligence though I can't see him being available when I'd hope we'd want to take him, hopefully past 2nd round. Sefarian-Jenkins maybe in 2, for some reason reminds me of Tony Hunter though, which may not be valid.
