Lions sign linebacker Davis to three-year deal

ALLEN PARK -- With a week left until the first group of players reports to training camp, the Lions are making progress in contract negotiations with their draft choices.

On Tuesday, linebacker James Davis, a fifth-round draft choice from West Virginia, signed a three-year contract. The Lions have signed one other draft pick -- defensive back Terrence Holt of West Virginia, their other fifth-round pick.

Financial terms on Davis' contract were not disclosed.

The Lions have nine other draft picks who have not signed, led by Charles Rogers, their first-round pick from Michigan State.

Rookies, quarterbacks and selected veterans report to camp July 23. The reporting date for the full squad is July 26.

Tom Lewand, the Lions' chief operating officer, expects to have agreements with more of the lower-round picks by the end of the week.
