Former Vandy star Battles could be in mix at safety

The Titans are interested in signing a back-up safety, and their candidates for the job include a player who knows the city and the team well.

Former Vanderbilt safety Ainsley Battles is scheduled to visit Baptist Sports Park today.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars last month.

Battles started 15 games for the Jaguars over the last two seasons. He also played a season for the Pittsburgh Steelers, who signed him as an undrafted free agent prior to the 2000 season.

The Titans need depth at safety behind starters Lance Schulters and Tank Williams. Battles, who has been working out in Atlanta, already has an offer on the table from another AFC team, and yet another team wants to have him in for a visit.
