Sammy Watkins is legit.
We expected the fourth overall pick in the 2014 Draft to be good, but we didn't know how good. One in-person look at his footwork and body control and you can see why the Buffalo Bills traded up to get him.
Watkins, along with 27 others, took part in Day 1 of the Bills three-day Rookie Camp on Saturday.
Head coach Doug Marrone characterized Sammy well, "He's a first round draft pick. If he came out here and dropped five balls and fell down five times, we'd be pissed (laughs)."
Watkins had a good day in his own right, despite Ohio State quarterback Kenny Guiton struggles to throw him the ball.
Looking at film, you see Watkins' speed, acceleration and knack for meeting the ball at the highest point. But up close, you see his first step when he cuts in and out on his routes, and it's lethal.
Marrone calls Watkins "smooth." That's a good word to describe his route running. It's effective but appears effortless.
