With all of the new NFL stadiums that have been built in the last decade, one would think Miami would have built a new stadium by now considering how many Super Bowls Miami, FL has hosted.
Stephen Ross is going to fork over $400 million dollars to renovate the Miami Dolphins home field, formerly known as Joe Robbie Stadium.
Why not just build a new stadium for that kind of money? This makes the Bills recent renovation plan look modest in comparison at $130 million.
What's really going on in Miami?
The people of Miami didn't support the idea of funding the renovations, so the Dolphins billionaire owner said fine, he'll pay for the renovations himself.
Is that a smart move?
The Dolphins can't sell out home games, fan attendance seems to be getting worse every year, and the public doesn't support the team with their tax dollars even though Florida is one of the most tax friendly States.
They don't even have a State Income Tax in Florida.
I am NOT a fan of taxpayers footing the Bills, pun intended...but I do think the people of Buffalo would look at a 1% hotel tax increase as small change.
Public support matters, and Miami doesn't have it.

The original renovation plan in Miami called for the public to pay for the stadium renovations, but the state legislature ended its session in May without approving the proposal. The proposed deal would have raised up to $289 million for renovations by raising the Miami-Dade hotel tax from 6 to 7 percent.
