Ten hyper-familiar storylines of minicamp season

    How any sound familiar? ...........

Every spring, NFL players report to OTAs and mandatory minicamps saying the same things they said the year before, and the year before that. Let's examine some of these familiar NFL storylines.

In TV, a trope is a plot trick, narrative structure or character that's instantly familiar. You've seen it before because it's been done, many times, with only the slightest of tweaks to the origin source.

The NFL has its own tropes this time of year ......

I COULD PLAY IF THE SEASON WERE STARTING

THE OFFENSE HAS NEVER BEEN FASTER......

PLAYER X: I'VE NEVER PLAYED WITH SOMEONE QUITE LIKE PLAYER Y......

INJURY-PRONE PLAYER X BULKED UP IN OFFSEASON......

PLAYER X: I HAVEN'T BEEN THIS HEALTHY IN YEARS!......

PLAYER X IS BETTER NOW THAN BEFORE SERIOUS INJURY......

STAR PLAYER: WINNING IS AWESOME AND THAT'S ALL I'M REALLY ABOUT, GUYS......

COACH X: WE'RE EXTREMELY IMPRESSED BY CAMP BODY Y/FADED VET Z......

PLAYER X UNSURE IF HE WILL ATTEND MINICAMP......

MIDDLING TEAM X WILL SHOCK THE WORLD......

Marketing at it's best. Russ Brandon just blushed.

      Other ones:

2nd year players "The game is slowing down for me"

Players from losing teams "Everyone is committed & putting in the extra effort"

Management/Coach about recently obtainted white guy "He's got a high motor ...he always brings his lunchpail to work"

Have to get the word "focused" in here, then add very / extremely & some other descriptions.

Well, every year there is at least one middling team X that shocks the World.

Last year it was the Chiefs.

This year, why not the Bills?

because the other teams arent in the NFL's sweetheart division of the pats. in 11 years, the bills have only had 2 games where the pats were flagged more than us.

so we are fighting for a WC spot at best by week 10.

            other divisions have parity.

Blame that on the Bills, Dolphins and Jets. It's not the Patriots fault they found a formula to be superior than us. Moreso us (aka the Bills) because if we could find a way to at least split our record against the Pats a few times we could arguably be in the Wild Card discussion a few times.

                Player X sucks balls.

We should have never drafted player Y.

We're going to miss Player Z.

Player B will never amount to anything.

The new GM and Coach must suck, because the team has sucked for 14 years.

                We're DOOOOOMED!!!

If you think what the Chiefs did was shocking then you're a blatant ******. Alex Smith had the 3rd highest QB rating in 2012 (104.1).

The Chiefs had a good team. They brought in a very good veteran coach and a veteran QB who is better than most fans give him credit for. That's all they needed to be where they were in 2013.

The Bills? They bring in Marrone (no head coaching experience and a friend of Russ Brandon from Syracuse) and EJ freaking Manuel. Puke.

Understand? Veteran coach/veteran QB vs rookie coach/rookie QB. And you wonder where the "Ralph is cheap" comes from.

Well, you are calling MANY people ******ed.

The vast majority of "experts" had the Chiefs winning 9 games at most.

Some had 6-10 0r 7-9 as the Chiefs record.

                    NOBODY predicted 11 Wins.
