Dolphins (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/MIA/miami-dolphins) center Mike Pouncey (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1273190/mike-pouncey), who's made more news for his off-the-field behavior recently (being served with Aaron Hernandez-related subpoenas (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24148598/report-police-serve-mike-pouncey-subpoena-after-patriots-game) and making rookie-hazing jokes (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/24556085/2014-nfl-draft-mike-pouncey-makes-joke-about-rookie-hazing)) than for his on-field play, won't actually return to the field for quite a while.
That's because he underwent hip surgery that will keep him out at least for the next three months, according to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora. The surgery, according to Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo (https://twitter.com/MikeGarafolo/status/481183421876953088), was for a labrum repair. ESPN's Adam Schefter (https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/481176192142168065) was the first to report the news.
If he's out for three months, Pouncey would miss all of training camp and the first few weeks of the season before he could return.
Which also means that the Dolphins will have an entirely different Week 1 starting lineup on the offensive line than they did last year with the loss of Pouncey, the PR disaster that was left guard Richie Incognito, and the trade of left tackle Jonathan Martin. Right tackle Tyson Clabo (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/494120/tyson-clabo) is now a free agent, while right guard John Jerry (http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/players/playerpage/1245019/john-jerry) now plays for the Giants.

The Bills home opener is the Dolphins on September 14.

Everything being equal, I think the fins don't win the versus the Bills. As a matter of fact, it might not even be close.

Mike Pouncey is a P.O.S.

Mike Pouncey deactivates Twitter after talking about hazing rookie

May 9, 2014 By Larry Brown (http://larrybrownsports.com/author/admin)

There’s dumb. There’s stupid. There’s idiotic. There’s brainless. And then there’s Mike Pouncey. He’s worse than all of that.

Pouncey undoubtedly won the award for worst tweet sent during the NFL Draft when he talked about hazing the Miami Dolphins’ first-round pick, Ja’Wuan James:

http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/mike-pouncey-twitter.jpg (http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/mike-pouncey-twitter.jpg)
Does it even matter if he sent this in jest? Of course not.

Pouncey, along with Richie Incognito, was implicated as one of the ringleaders in the Dolphins bullying scandal involving Jonathan Martin. Pouncey defended himself in the face of the accusations, but what defense does he have for this? I mean how stupid can you be?

New Dolphins GM Dennis Hickey says the team addressed the matter with Mike, who is one of the veteran leaders on the Dolphins offense.

Pouncey deactivated his Twitter account in response. You can always delete your Twitter, but it’s going to be hard for him to fix being stupid.

Pretty sure the reaction to that specific tweet is over-blown. pmoon is right, our culture is getting continually wussified. Verbal or physical abuse is one thing, but being expected to buy trinkets for vets, or even carry their pads for a week after practice, hardly crosses the line between initiation and hazing.

I hope we blitz the skirts right off of them.

I never tire of beating Miami.

Pouncey is a good player, and James was a good pick.

I'm not exactly sure that's the issue. In 1975 that kind of talk stayed in the locker room where it offended on one. When a jack ass like Pouncey cannot recognize that you can't put that into a public forum like Twitter, you're bound to have problems. The first failure was his inability to recognize that as locker room only discourse. He should have never put that on to Twitter.

When people claim the world is "being wussified" it just shows how out of touch they've been with the real world. The internet brings the world into there house. The Average American is not the same as a drunk football fan or a gun-toting redneck.

And you know, as well I did, that's not what he meant. I don't disagree that we're getting over sensitive but let's not go to the other extreme and be completely naive either.

Agreed completely. Pouncey didnt kill, rob, or rape anyone.
He made a self-depreciating joke about the bully-gate whole incident
He and Incognito may have gone to far with someone who is over sensitive and who probably had self-esteem issues, but that had to be one of the most overblown sports stories of all time.

Who are you referring to, the guy that blasted the tweet? He most definitely is over-reacting, and I'm pretty sure my comment clearly identified that I was not going to the other extreme.

If somebody is going to go off and criticize an innocent comment like that, society is absolutely getting wussified. Anything that remotely resembles any hint of initiation, as opposed to hazing, all of sudden becomes the same as hazing. Some of these antics are simply that...all in good fun, with no intent to physically or mentally harm anybody. Anyone that thinks Pouncey's comments are out of bounds are the ones that have lost touch with reality.

Back in the day, one rookie ritual at training camp demanded all of the new guys stand up on a chair at lunch, grab their junk, and sing their alma mater's fight song. OH, THE HORROR!!!

As long as an action does not involve physical or mental distress, it's simply a bonding mechanism...a rite of passage...and there is a difference between that and hazing.

Back in the day, incoming high school freshmen were grabbed and marked up with lipstick after the first day of class ended. You felt left out if you didn't get smeared. Carrying a jack knife wasn't uncommon back then. But nobody stabbed anyone...
