Didn't Murray mentiong about taking a big Swedish goalie in one of his pressers? Looks like we got one:

Meh... 5th or 6th best goalie in a average class.. Could be a good backup most likely.. Sabres got unlucky there was a run on goalies between 34 and 39.. (Demko,McDonald,Nedeljkovic,Vanecek) before the Sabres picked 44..

Teams should pick a goalie every year, even if it is in a later round. It is just such a crap shoot and if multiple work out it is not a bad thing

Miller was a fifth rounder?

I remember some of the Darcy apologists bringing him up to show how good at drafting he was.

Disagree. "Rules of thumb" are meant to be broken given circumstances. The Sabres have at least three noteworthy goaltenders in the system already in Ullmark, Hackett, and Lieuwen. It's unlikely that the draftee ever surpasses all three of those guys. Furthermore, as pointed out, Murray took this guy at the end of a goalie run in the draft.

That being said, our new, socailly awkward GM, certainly does know hockey talent. So he must have seen something in the guy. So I'll be content to wait and see.

the thing is, on paper, this is correct. still, a third rounder on a goalie is considered high, so this kid must have something. and as much better as drafting has gotten, goaltenders are still a large unknown. so its a good pick.
