The NFL teams split $6 billion in revenue last season

NFL teams split $6B in revenue during 2013 season
By Will Brinson | NFL Writeruly 11, 2014 10:26 am ET

"The Green Bay Packers released their annual revenue report on Thursday, opening a window in the multi-billion dollar world of NFL team financials. Because the Packers are a publicly-owned team, their revenue report is made public, and it shows the 32 NFL teams split north of $6 billion.

The Packers earned $187.7 million in national revenue in 2013, CEO and President Mark Murphy revealed, which amounted to a 4.3 percent increase over the previous year. (Multiply $187.7 million by 32 and you get $6,006,400,000.)"..

Something to think about when you put your lips around that $4.00 stadium weenie...

What is the definition of 'national revenue'?

It's TV revenue that gets shared. A majority of that goes towards the players (60/40) via Salary Cap/Min & paying other expenses

The other income: tickets, merchandise, etc doesn't get shared and essentially goes to each team and represent the biggest source of profit.

This is where it pays to have a big market. Teams like the cowboys, redskins, make a killing in ticket revenue & merchandise; however, they also have higher expenses: stadium leases, etc.

It's a great model because essentially every team has more than enough $$$ to pay for players all the way up to the entire salary cap & not be hurt financially.

Yeah, this is pretty much wrong under the new CBA. All revenue is shared with the players. Players get 55% of national media revenue, 45% of all NFL Ventures revenue, and 40% of local club revenue.

With the new CBA, less is diverted from larger teams to smaller teams, but since so much is shared with the players it isn't as important as before. The exact percentage of revenue shared by league teams vs. not shared varies year-to-year, but the estimate is about 75% of the owner's cut is shared equally among teams.

Yes, I understand TV revenue, but based on the difference in terminology (national revenue) I assume there is more to the total than just the TV money.

That's just a crap load of money... but hey they need tax revenue to build new stadiums for 10 three hour games each year!
