    Head Coach Power Rankings

Given Bill Belichick's respect around the league, and the fact that he's praised weekly by broadcasters from CA to MA, isn't it a touch striking that his Patriots haven't won the Super Bowl since the 2004 season? Yes, Belichick has set the bar so high th

Marrone at 27 below Bradley and Philbin.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
    It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

    That's fair.

He has done nothing in the NFL.

Truth is he did very little in the NCAA as well.

I don't know why Jim Caldwell is #22, but I'd put him closer to the bottom and behind Marrone. I'd put Marrone ahead of Bradley too and maybe Philbin, but no reason for him to be any higher right now.

The writer is mistakenly giving him credit for the AFC Championship ring he wears.

I like Marrone. He better hope EJ pans out though.

Yeah, I bet Peyton Manning could have even gotten me an AFC championship ring that year.

Philbin is a decent coach working for a nightmare team.

I am fine with Marrone at 27 because he hasn't proven a thing yet.

On the other hand, there are Coaches rated ahead of him that haven't proven anything either.

Marrone may prove to be a better HC than many listed ahead of him on that list, yet to be determined.

Caldwell has a winning record as a HC.

Yeah, because he had two of three years with Peyton Manning. As soon as Manning got hurt, they were promptly the worst team in the NFL.

Amazing how good a HOF QB can make a HC look.

He could've even been ranked last and I would've had no problem with it...We'll see if things change this season.

That's not to say a coach can be good independent of their HOF QB. Dungy was good without Manning, Sherman was good without Favre, and I think Payton and Belichick will be good without their HOF QBs. But Caldwell was clearly carried by his QB. He's a decent coordinator though, and his SB rings prove that part
