All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
Please use this thread to report any issues you come across

NHL Network Kevin Weekes tweeting Ennis multi-yr deal to be done in 24-48 Hrs.
Re: NHL Network Kevin Weekes tweeting Ennis multi-yr deal to be done in 24-48 Hrs.
wow, 5yrs at 23MM. that's interesting. they are paying for future production. i don't think he's earned that when it's compared to moulsons 5yr 25MM deal.
โI need to be more consistent. Iโm happy that I beat my last career-high at 20 so Iโm glad I got 21,โ Ennis said. โBut I want to get 30. I want to get 40. You want to set high goals, so Iโm going to set high goals for myself.โ
โ(My play) got better as the season went on ... I have to play the whole season like that though.โ - Tyler Ennis http://sabres.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=716217
Re: NHL Network Kevin Weekes tweeting Ennis multi-yr deal to be done in 24-48 Hrs.
Apparently confirmed:
A person familiar with the agreement confirmed to The Associated Press early Thursday that the Sabres have reached a deal to re-sign Ennis to a five-year contract worth about $23 million. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the Sabres haven't announced the deal.
Ennis is not Max, the ultimate floater who scored once every 3 months and refused to back check.
20-25 goals gets you that $$ these days. I get that they're all overpaid as much as anyone.
The similarity is that they both over-rely on speed and puck-handling. Max never understood that he can't skate around or through guys in the NHL like he could at the lower levels. He'd dance around with the puck until he lost it rather than shoot or dump it in.
I see Ennis doing that same thing a lot. At first I thought it was youth but he doesn't seem to be improving much in that area, and that's why I'm concerned that he'll be the next Max
More like the second coming of Christian Ruuttu. Like Ennis, Ruuttu was the best player on a lousy team.
I like Ennis, but he is what he is. A decent 2nd liner for most teams. Probably relegated to 3rd line for a top team. But a superstar in Buffalo. While size isn't the only thing, it is important. If he was the size of Vanek, he'd be that superstar. Darcy reached taking him at #26, but that's not Tyler's fault. He's got game. He's got potential. But I think his ceiling is probably 60 points or so.
As far as small guys go, he's no MSL. Then again, he's no Gerbe either. We can all be thankful for that. This is not to disparage Gerbe. Kid has heart. But heart only gets you so far. If Ennis's ceiling is 60 points, Gerbe's is more like 30.

I use to complain during the Golisano years they didn't spend enough so I feel like a hypocrite saying this but they should have been able to get Ennis for 4 million a year max.. They overpaid him

Spending foolishly doesn't get any better results than not spending at all...
But I'm not overly concerned about this because of all the cap space we have left.
Now, if the rebuild goes according to plan and we are ready to compete for the Cup but lose out on a top FA by $500 k a year becuase we couldn't squeeze him under the cap, then I'll be pissed.
