Thomas Vanek says he's cooperating with federal authorities conducting an investigation in Rochester.

Local media report that Vanek was at the federal courthouse in Rochester to speak with officials. He signed a free-agent contract with Minnesota this month.

In statement released by his agent, Vanek says they have asked for his cooperation in an investigation. He says he's cooperating and isn't a target of the probe or prosecution.

Details of the investigation haven't been released. Messages left with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Buffalo and Vanek's attorney weren't initially returned.

This is in relation to a federal gambling/money laundering bust of a bar in Rochester partially owned by Nathan Paetsch (http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/21/vanek-connected-to-federal-gambling-investigation/)

In all likelihood, Vanek was probably approached by Paetsch to front money for the bar. Unless that bar was taking sports book (the FBI press release suggests it was), in which case it could be a number of things.
