You might have heard that John Scott (http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/players/54729/john-scott) is not a particularly good hockey player. But at some point we stopped talking about John Scott the hockey player and instead starting talking about the character John Scott. Not his character, to be clear, which along with his Veteran Presence earned him a job with the Sharks (http://www.sbnation.com/nhl/teams/san-jose-sharks) next season. So let's get a real look at just how much damage Scott will actually do when he's included in the lineup.

I am pretty sure he is the least skilled player I have ever seen play for the Sabres for any period of time.

Wow. That guy makes a good case for his hate of Scott.

There are so many in incredibly talented hockey players in the minors who could offer so much more than what Scott brings to the table.

most of them will never see real time in the NHL if any at all.

thats what awful about it.

Scott had more goals than Ville Lieno.

He also had the same number of points for the Sabres as Connor Knapp

As an enforcer, Peters was a complete embarrassment and as a #34 overall pick, one of Regier's worst ever picks.

Scott is just void of talent.

I think Peters is better at hockey than Scott (not saying Peters was good because he certainly wasn't- but he's not as bad as Scott, who's by far the worst hockey player currently in the NHL).

The only thing that saves Scott in this discussion is that Scott actually is an enforcer. Peters would throw down with anyone but was a human punching bag the majority of the time.

I just can't believe Scott is still around. The rule changes after the 04 lockout pretty much killed the full time enforcer. There were still a bunch on teams'rosters- like Peters and Brashear- but I figured that the days of the enforcer were over once that crop retired. Yet somehow John Scott made it to the league and has stuck around.
