View Full Version : Bills fans are drunkest in the NFL, according to author who visited every stadium

"But what I remember most of all here is the wild atmosphere, one of the craziest I saw during my travels, with much of it due to excessive alcohol consumption. As you can probably guess, Bills fans are the drunkest I witnessed on my trip. That is true before, during and after the game. I even saw the Bills twice on the road and this observation was merely confirmed. Unfortunately, most of them are unable to hold their liquor and lose control, becoming a danger to others or to themselves......

"Based on what I saw last year, little has changed. Inside the stadium seemed like a free-for-all at times, with fans moving around constantly and far too many in the advanced stages of inebriation, especially in the lower level end zone seats. Beer was constantly being spilled on the concourse and stairways to the seats, making things that much more dangerous. Buffalo, like the many industrial cities in the cold northeast, is a hard-drinking town, but too many fans are simply out of control at Bills games....."

Most of this drinking is done before the game in the parking lot where the team's owner makes no money off the booze.

I believe under the excuse of potential liability, a new stadium in Buffalo will curtail the number of parking spots available for tailgating.

The NFL seems look to limit its exposure.

14 straight years of problems will do that to you, not to mention the previous 50+ years of failures & everyone's parents losing their cushy job.

The drunkenness in both cities is more likely due to the eight months of winter...

I'm not a football fan with an alcohol problem, I'm an alcohol (Wild Turkey American Honey or Birddog Whiskey with Maple + coke oh yeah) fan with a football problem. If my Bills were better, I'd problem drink a hell of a lot less, so would most of Billls nation.

I think this is a complete misunderstanding. The Bills fans do not drink because they want to pass out (due to the actual play on the field) or due to an alcohol problem.
It is to keep them warm in the winter ... :-)

No, the MOST drinking is not done in the parking lot.

It is on CANADIAN buses on the way to the game.

It is no surprise Bills fans are the drunkest in the NFL, they have the greatest number of CANADIAN fans.

The best part of Bills games is not the games themselves but the party before and afterwards. Its on the Bills to change that
Don't blame us fans for finding others things to do to keep us occupied while the team tanks year after year.

Well, I will admit when I was younger, I used to get hammered many times at games.

I remember this one game I took my wife to. It was late in the game, the Bills were losing & people left.

My wife & I stayed & were having a good time with each other, it seemed we were alone in our section. The Club section.

Then two *****ES behind us started complaining, saying we were drunk. One threatened to call security.

After looking at them, I realized they were not the people that always sat behind me. I said to her, get the hell out of here or I will call security on you, these are not your seats.

They got up & left, *****ing until out of ear shot.

Oh we are drunk there is no doubt but you do raise a good point. As I becoming an old ass I have cut down quite substantially in recent years. The drunkest people that sit by me BY FAR are the Canadians. They are absolutely blitzed every game. Again Buffalonians are no angels either but just stating my observations.

With that said they are funny dudes so it is no big deal. Except for the Canadian guy who sits right in front of me. SOOOO ANNOYING. He has no idea what he is talking about and is just unruly insane. I moved my seats this year because of him.

My position on this is I am fine if people get drunk at the game as long as they don't make an ass out of themselves, doing stupid things like sliding down railings or provoking others.

I have taken many party buses to NFL games & baseball games in my life, a great time to be had by all, with a whole lot of drinking going on in the bus.

I absolutely believe there is more drinking going on in the buses from Canada than in the parking lot at the Stadium where people are grilling, eating, playing games, walking around socializing etc.

And as I said, I am fine with the Canadians having a good time getting hammered on the bus, as long as they don't get stupid.

But I have no doubt a good number of the drunken fans at the game are Canadian.

It's one of the reasons I bought seats in the non alc "family" zone.

I'm not against anyone having a good time, but an incident that really struck me, was at a Redskin game back around 2003 or 4.

I sat in the tunnell end zone with WYS. RRich's seats were a couple rows behind him. (For those of you who do not know RRich, he's a 6'6" 275 lb block of granite, who is an Air Force vet.

Some scrawney kid tried starting with him. Rich just looked at him like..."I'll squash you like a bug."

And his friends still had to drag him away.

So I'll take my son, or my wife, but we're sitting above the bloodbath.

When I was a young boy, my father & uncle would take me, my brothers & cousins to Bills games at War Memorial Stadium, the Old Rockpile.

That was like the Wild West compared to games at the Ralph. Guys would carry in cases of beer & even kegs of beer into the Stadium along with quarts of liqueur.

And cans in those days had to be opened with a can opener. If a guy crushed a can with his hand in those days, he was STRONG.

I saw cans & bottles go sailing in the air on many occasions, luckily never got hit with one.

But I think the family section is a great option for people that don't drink or don't want their kids around that.

But hopefully security can handle the idiots that get drunk & stupid.
