View Full Version : OK, so days prior to the start of the season, what is your record prediction for us?

Fletch

Two days out from the season opener and five days out from our opener in Chicago, what is your record prediction for us at this point in time?

And please, spare us the 16-0 and 15-1's, etc. and be serious.

I'm sticking to my 3-13 to 5-11 range. I can see 2-14 but it's so difficult to lose 14 games, not sure I see it even if only from an odds angle.

If Orton starts somewhat early in the season, something else I don't see happening, I can see this team maybe playing the equivalent of 6-10 (.375) ball the rest of the way.

Strengths: DL, OL, Fred Jackson, Woods

Weaknesses: Coaching, Secondary, Linebackers, QB, TE, rest of the RBs

I started at 8-8 in May.

Went to 7-9 after Kiko's injury.

With the QB situation and the last 2 pre-season games, I have now dropped to 6-10 and leaning more and more to 5-11.

It depends on how much playing time Orton gets and how good he turns out being. Too difficult to call at this juncture. If Manuel starts all 16 games? The Bills win 3 or 4. Possibly as high as 5.

Why do you say that?

What is it that makes you think that the D is going to be any good?

Just asking because I read that a lot in the media where talk is cheap, and many here seem to believe the same, but I'm just not seeing it. I see our back-7 being very poor against the pass this season. If you can't stop the pass in the modern NFL you're simply not going to win many games.

Because he didn't win enough games as a HC. He wasn't a DC in Detroit. Why did they hire him originally?

Somewhere between 6-10 and 9-7, although it wouldn't surprise me if they end up a game lower or higher.

I disagree oline is a strength, I think they and the uncertainty regarding what to expect from the QB position are the two biggest weaknesses the team has. I actually have a pretty good feeling about the Chicago game, but the defense is going to have to play lights out, the oline is going to have to help establish the running game somewhat consistently, and EJ/Orton can't throw or fumble the game away.

Somewhat forgotten over the preseason amid all the hyperventilating over the QB's has been the special teams...can't afford breakdowns, and need to make at least two plays that score, secure the ball, or establish/flip field position.

Odd that I'm the optimist here, but I think we'll be 7-9. Our schedule is easier, Spiller's basically in a contract year, Jerry Hughes looks like the real deal, and I think Spikes will be quite good. Losing Byrd, Alonso, and Pettine is what will keep our defense out of the elite tier, but it should be enough to improve our overall record.

Then I thought once we'd get a QB that wouldn't check down for every throw, we'd turn it around. Then I thought once we got a blue chip talent at QB we'd turn it around. We'll ****, I'm out of hope.
