Tony Boselli is expected to retire this week because of injuries, ending the career of a player who was once the league's best offensive lineman, a source within the NFL told the Associated Press.
Boselli, a former Jacksonville Jaguars star and the first player the Houston Texans selected in the 2002 expansion draft, sat out almost all of the past two years because of three operations on his left shoulder.

He missed most of the 2001 season with the Jaguars and spent last season on the Texans' injury list.

Boselli, 31, was expected to end his eight-year career with an announcement this week, the source said yesterday, speaking on condition of anonymity. Boselli declined comment when reached at his home Tuesday night. MORE... (http://www.sunspot.net/sports/football/bal-sp.nflnotes17jul17,0,3534644.story?coll=bal-sports-football)

Tony Boselli will end his NFL career without ever playing a down for the Texans, but his presence in the locker room loomed as large as his imposing 6-7, 332-pound body.

From the moment the Texans selected Boselli with the No. 1 overall pick in last year's expansion draft, general manager Charley Casserly proclaimed, "We have our first Hall of Famer, and we haven't even played a game yet."

Nearly 17 months later, the opinions have not changed about one of the league's dominant offensive tackles of the past decade.

After sitting out almost all of the past two years because of three operations on his left shoulder, Boselli, 31, is expected to announce today that he is retiring after an eight-year NFL career. MORE.... (http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/story.hts/sports/fb/texans/1998549)
