Jackson.

CJ Spiller was not chosen to be a Captain.

Jackson was.

Marrone started Spiller last season and that didn't go so well.

I'd be shocked if Spiller got the majority of the carries against the Bears.

Gotta start Jackson until he proves he can't handle the load. We're in trouble on 3rd-downs though with Spiller in there. His track record on 3rds is miserable. So are Brown's and Dixon's.

I hope they use Spiller as a wideout.

"CJ, run down the field as fast as you can in a straight line towards the endzone."

I will blow chunks of chili all over my living room if such a thing happens.

According to the depth chart Spiller is the starter. Jackson will play on most obvious passing downs because of his pass pro and Brown will spell them both.

Spiller. We need to see what he can do with 25-30 touches before his contract runs out.

Gilmore wasn't chosen to be a Capt. Does that mean Graham is our top cb?

Marrone gave Spiller the start in the first 2 games last year and then yanked him.

If Jackson started against New England, I think the Bills would have won that game.

Maybe he is?

Gilmore and McKelvin to this point have not played up to their first round draft status. Gilmore is a very quiet, reserved kind of guy, and is not the, "team leader," type of player.

Graham and Williams are the leaders of the Bills secondary.

Fred Jackson is THE leader of the Buffalo Bills.

To not start him would be stupid.

Spiller ain't a go-to back. He's a gimmick that the Bills hoped to work into the Tred/Fitz/EJ dink-and-dunk. It hasn't worked. He gets one 25 yard spurt and ten for 2 or fewer.

No. Not all the best players are captains. FJ was Spiller's mentor. He's the old man on this team.

Kiko was arguably the best player on D last year. Doesn't mean he would have been the Capt over guys like Spikes or Kyle

Thats why spiller was averaging 10 yards a carry there a couple years back

Graham is ST's captain.

Regardless of what the depth chart says, Fred has to start over CJ...gotta get positive yards on the first few plays, as opposed to watching CJ get strung out and go out of bounds for a 2-4 yard loss.

Based on the preseason its Spiller. Yet this staff seems so out of touch with personnel decisions who knows.

He averaged 6 ypc in '12. In that season, he had five 100 yard games. In '13, regression to the mean. You can figure he's good for 200 carries and about 900 yards for a year. No way he can go 25-30 carries a game. He's not built for it.

Spiller is not an NFL RB. Jackson is.

who cares who is in there for the first snap?

This is running back by committee, and it should be.

Even though Freddie brings things to the table that Spiller can't, I think Spiller is the better back. I'm just glad that we have them both and don't have to choose between the two.

Spiller is not an NFL RB..

Ridiculous.

First three scripted plays:

Spiller off-tackle to the right (for 2 yards).

Spiller off-tackle to the left (for 2 yards).

Fred Jackson swing pass behind the line of scrimmage (for 4 yards).

Punt.

Adrian Peterson was not chosen to be captain, they must be trying to trade him. For what it's worth, out of the 32 teams, there is 1 RB and 1 FB that are captains.
Spiller played much of the year on a bad ankle and still gained over 900 yds. with a 4.6 y/c. Not great but certainly better than not "so well".
In the 4 years combined since Spiller has been has been in the league, only Jamaal Charles has a higher y/c average. That is not an average back. It's up to Hackett to use Spiller right.

Some of you guys are really good at not making any sense. Its almost as if its a skill that you've been able to hone over the years...

starting running back is a concern for this team? it's a brutal position that takes a toll on the player. i'd like to have both and don't care who takes the first snap. i just hope both can be successful.

justasportsfan
09-03-2014, 08:23 AM
who really cares as to who starts ? If teams are playing the pass or the D is spread out, try Spiller. If you want to punish/soften up the DL, try Jackson.

and i'm guessing dixon is going to work his way in there as well. i just think they need to start with jackson because he gets stronger as he gets touches. spiller really can come in and be explosive for 4-8 plays. and dixon should be the guy to spell jackson and be a bruising runner when other teams are wearing out on stopping the run.

This just in...........Spiller was INJURED in 2013....for just about the entire season.

And even though he was injured, Spiller almost had a 1000 yd season.

Whatever they do, let's make sure most of the Spiller plays calls the coaches send in are for him to try and bust it straight up the middle. And give Freddy the outside routes.

Was that supposed to refute my point? He was a bit banged up and missed just one game.

Give him the ball 25-30 times a game as was suggested and see how many he misses.

I suppose they might use him as a decoy, but they have had years to explore the possibility and must have concluded that it wouldn't work. TJ Graham had wheels aplenty and look where it got him.
