FYI: 506 Sports again publishes tv game maps

Always a useful source for what is being shown on tv around the nation. Frequent updates. Worth a bookmark.

Pittsburgh and Charlotte, the only 2 places I've lived and seen on these maps that won't an NFC or AFC game (respectively) at the same time their beloved team is being shown. A big finger to TWC/Comcast. Thankfully I live in Raleigh now...

And a HUGE thank you for the map.

Did the TV rules change and I missed it? Usually if the visiting team is from the AFC then it's a CBS game. If the visiting team is from the NFC it's a Fox game.

It's a good site to consult. You get a feeling about how the networks pimp the teams with the national rep, according to their studies. A few years ago, I kept track of what was shown in my Cincy market - by far, NFC East games were predominant. I remember stretches of 5 years before I saw a regular season Bills game, and generally only when the schedulers had the AFC North play the AFC East.

            Yes, they did: http://sidelionreport.com/2014/04/23...sgiving-whats/

It is unclear why the league decided to switch things up but it is important to note that 2014 is the first year of the new television deals. Under those agreements, the NFL has greater flexibility in changing the rigid conference relationships with Fox and CBS. Under the new deals, Fox will still primarily carry games involving NFC road teams while CBS will continue with games involving AFC road games but there will be some “crossflexing”, as explained on NFL.com earlier today:

The “cross flex” mechanism will serve a similar purpose. Select games can be flexed between CBS and FOX. In the past, a game with two NFC teams had to be on FOX and a game with two AFC teams had to be on CBS. Now, the league can theoretically move an all-NFC game to CBS or an all-AFC game to FOX in select cases.

The opportunity to put an NFC North clash between the Lions and Bears in a premium television slot over keeping the rotation with the Bills or Dolphins was likely the deciding factor for the NFL. While the Lions won’t be facing an AFC opponent, CBS will still broadcast the Thanksgiving game from Detroit as one of three pre-determined crossflex games for the network.

I've long felt that they use computer algorithms that determine what showing maximizes profit, tv market by market. Many times, the off-game (not the home club) is not an AFC-NFC game - it's DAL vs. another NFC team. Now, I wouldn't mind seeing DAL go ahead and beat an AFC club, for obvious reasons. Wouldn't mind watching such a game to gauge AFC competitors.

If you have TW, avoid their recent change where they charge for their cable modem leasing ($5.99/month here), I bought this as recommended by TW:

Tip: after calling up TW and giving them your new cable modem MAC address and waiting an hour or so for it to be registered, be sure to unplug your router for a minute or so, to reset it. If you don't you will end up on the line for 4 phone calls like I did until I came across somebody who told me that that was the trick...

Same in Tampa if it is a home game. The Bucs play at 4:30 this week, the 49ers/Cowboys are on TV instead of the Bucs/Panthers on the East Coast of Fla. WTF.

Phew, for a minute there, I figured the Bills were so bad, CBS refused to broadcast their games!

No it is a change this year & the reason the Bills will not play against the Lions on Thanksgiving Day.

It will be Chicago at Detroit with CBS televising that game.

Bad news for BUF fans in the Boston area. They have been switched from BUF@CHI to NO@ATL.

BTW, the announcing team for BUF@CHI will be Kenny Albert, Daryl Johnston, Tony Siragusa.
