When the Denver Broncos encourage their fans to mark their calendars for the Super Bowl this season, the football team plans to make the task as enjoyable as possible.

The Broncos' cheerleading squad has committed to the production of an additional 2,000 calendars in anticipation of increased sales tied to the product's improved artistry.

The 20 percent increase over the standard annual order of 10,000 calendars follows a period of relatively flat sales. The cheerleaders have sold only about 8,000 of their calendars per year recently.

"We printed 12,000 the year after the Super Bowl (1999) and only sold 8,000," said Teresa Schroeder, director of cheerleaders and game day entertainment. "This year we're hoping for the best. The interest level has gone up. We've gotten a lot of calls from people who know Pamela (Mougin, Denver photographer) is doing the calendar. And the cheerleaders are excited about it, and they're a strong promotional force for us as well."

For nine years the calendar price has remained at $12.95, translating into annual revenues of about $100,000 in support of the 29-person squad.

Until this year, the squad has always posed in its standard, on-field uniforms/costumes. This year's calendar includes more creative clothing and settings, said Schroeder, thanks to Mougin's photographic talents. MORE....
