View Full Version : End of the line for Toronto's NFL hopes. The Bills will be sold to Terry Pegula.

John Kryk has been the most consistently accurate reporter throughout the Bills' sale process. This article is basically a five finger death punch to the other bidders, and provides a healthy dose of STFU to those who think that money alone would determine whose bid will be accepted by the trust.

http://blogs.canoe.ca/krykslants/nfl/two-selection-criteria-beyond-money-including-certainty-of-nfl-approval-mean-highest-bidder-wont-necessarily-get-bills/

If you need a reason beyond his acres of cash why Terry Pegula has a significant edge over his rival bidders in the Buffalo Bills sale, consider this.

Sun Media has learned that the highest bidder is not necessarily going to get the team.

Binding, definitive offers in the NFL club’s sale were due Monday at 5 p.m. EDT. At least three came in.

Two critical factors beyond money — both long speculated as playing a role — indeed are among the Ralph Wilson trust’s expressed selection criteria. Sun Media has confirmed that “certainty of NFL approval” is one, and the ability to close the deal immediately is the other.

According to a source in the position to know, Morgan Stanley — the Wilson trust’s investment bank conducting the sale — in early July informed prospective bidders who’d signed a non-disclosure agreement that, in selecting finalists, the Wilson trust would place “great weight” on the above two factors.

Those factors remain critical in the selection of a winning bidder, according to two informed sources.

Unlike with his two known rival bidders — Donald Trump and Jon Bon Jovi’s Toronto group — neither factor is believed to be an issue for Pegula.

You do such a good job of sucking your own. Keep up the good work.

I don't think that anyone thinks that anyone but Pegula will win this. I'm not going to believe it though until the news officially hits. We've seen so much errant reporting that nothing is definite until it's been formally reported.

The next step will be cleaning house in the front office. If Pegula keeps the current FO like some other reports have said he will, that won't be good news.

Just ask your homeboys in Toronto.

Who cares what you want.

Most of us want to win and realize that the front office is a part of the problem.

This just in, but we have no 1st round pick next season. Or 4th for that matter. For what, a WR that's shown absolutely nothing so far.

Once again, glad to see such high standards for a Bills fan.

I have no idea WTF you're talking about. That post wasn't even addressed to you, it was addressed to Yardrat who clearly doesn't care if we're ever a good team. All he wants is a 4-12 team in Buffalo apparently.

As to Watkins, I have no idea why you think I'm saying he's a bust. But he has to be so much more than just a 1st rounder to match what we gave up for him.

I posted after the draft that we should have taken either Evans or Benjamin, so if those guys play better then what, does that make me more knowledgeable than our dumbfounded GM and the rest of the FO?

It's not about Watkins being a bust, it's about whether or not the picks were a judicious use of them to get him.

Right now, and this is a fact, he's had 3 catches for 21 yards in preseason, and 3 for 31 in season.

Everyone was expecting him and his speed to come out of the gates swinging, but it hasn't even shown signs of happening, just as with Spiller.

Yeah yeah, he's injured. So are 200 other players that put up numbers on Sunday. He wasn't injured in preseason when he put up 3 for 21 and a whopping 7 ypr avg.

So the ones on the short end of any discussion as to whether or not Watkins was worth the pick should have absolutely nothing to say at the moment. Period.

I believe you. I was just puzzled when you tagged me for a post not even made to you. Yet it's so typical here that I thought that you meant it.

I dish it out only after it's been dished. I never initiate. That's the difference. Seems that people are so childish here that this is going to permanently ongoing. I'm telling you though that to outsiders the place looks ******ed. It's no skin off my teeth and I'm hardly complaining. Just pointing it out.

Entire threads are being posted as if I really hate this team, really want it to move, etc. I don't even know what to say to that, but honestly, can it possibly get more childish and ******ed? Seriously, can it get any more childish? I don't think it can, or at least not much more.

What you have here is a group of people that don't want to expend too much mental energy on anything thought provoking, so you have a series of very shallow conversations. Anytime someone interjects something that isn't widely popular things go downhill in a hurry.

It is what it is. As to my positions, they're clear. It's beyond obvious that no one really cares what I actually think with the exceptions of a handful, maybe 6 or fewer, posters. But to then start making **** up about what I think, I mean really Lechter, does it, can it possibly get any more chidish.

So the ones on the short end of any discussion as to whether or not Watkins was worth the pick should have absolutely nothing to say at the moment. Period.

Of course there are questions about what they did to get Watkins. I don't think I ever denied that. But making profound statements and just comparing stats between he and Benjamin are misleading and more than a bit disingenuous.

First off, this "everybody" part is really not true, but is something you seem to like to do - i.e. lump all posters into one.

Second, I like Benjamin too as you can imagine by looking at my avatar. But let's not act like the two are in the same situation on their respective teams. Quite simply, the Panthers have no WRs like Williams or Woods on their team so I would expect Benjamin to get more opportunities.

It still boils down to him having played one game. The pre-season stats are irrelevant (and yes - he was injured and missed most of two games) so why you went there I have no idea.

We really don't know if the move will work out. They gave up more than I would have liked. But I also know they got that one of the most talented WRs I have seen in years and one of the top 2 players in this draft.

And whether you like it or not, people are going to respond when you through your digs on him when there is really no data whatsoever to decide whether or not he was worth it

Finally, whether or not a post was "addressed" to somebody on a public forum does not really mean anything.

If Watkins had caught 8 balls for 175 yards and 2 TDs I would hope that people would not say that it proved that trade was worth it - and I tend to think you would not say it meant that.

No it will be for as long as Pegula owns the team. He'll get the new stadium built as well which will ensure their time in Buffalo to likely beyond his ownership tenure.

Also Pegula has five kids (including a pro tennis playing daughter) so the likelihood that one of them takes the reigns after him is pretty high.

Cinci's response to DraftBoys post "fantastic news to wake up too!!" "the team goes to Pegula and stays in Buffalo." was "at least until 2019"

That was the type of response to a post about GOOD NEWS that only a TROLL would post.

That does not make him a troll.

I know you don't like differing opinions, but not everybody is a troll

On the contrary, I do enjoy debating people with differing opinions.

I do not enjoy when some people with differing opinions make things personal. No need for that IMO.

Like I said before, I only call people Troll if they have shown they are not fans of the Buffalo Bills & could care less if the Bills left Buffalo.

IMO, Cinci posted a TROLL like response to DraftBoy's post. If it walks like a duck & quacks like a duck, it is probably a duck.

And it is funny you decry personal comments when cincy did not make any personal comments but you did.

Well TROLL, I do have an open mind & have had it changed when others have shown me the error of my thinking.

An example of this was last off season, I stuck up for Brian Moorman & said he did not have a bad year.

Well, another poster showed me I was wrong, that Moorman had a TERRIBLE year. He got me to change my mind about Moorman.

This year Moorman is off the team.

Only an IDIOT would not change his mind when he was proven wrong.

But you keep thinking the Bills will move.

As to the Bills moving, simply because Pegula buys the team is no assurance that they're not moving. Has this eluded you?

He's the best choice for trying to keep them here, but unless he's willing to drop another $1B on a new stadium, and maybe he is, but maybe he isn't, that's what's going to be necessary to keep the team here.

Why? Because Goodell and the league has said so and the league usually gets its way 99% of the time.

As to changing opinions, you yourself posted a thread after Sunday insisting that the team is now going 10-6. Talk about an about-face.

Anyway, I was being lighthearted, sorry that you took it so seriously.

If Pegula keeps the current FO like some other reports have said he will, that won't be good news.

errant reporting being reports that don't jive with what you want. it's been fairly similar across the board across most media sources. you just chose to be obtuse about how a trust works and how an investment bank processes such a sale.

Don't be obtuse... Pegs isn't moving the Bills anywhere but downtown.

Pegs is going to do what Jim and that sh1tty nightclub couldn't do... revitalize the downtown area!

A trust works the way the instructions to it are written.

You implying that you know what that was when it was and still is to date a closely guarded secret says a lot about your posting.

I hope you're right. I'd love to see it.

But we've been sold bill-of-goods after bill-of-goods for years. It's easy to be skeptical when it comes to our Bills.

I'll believe it when I see financing in place and ground broken on a new stadium.

I also don't think that a downtown stadium is going to be as much fun for attending games, the tailgating aspect won't be there nearly to the extent that a more suburban or rural stadium allows for. There are some other pluses though.

Period.

keep saying that evans had a better game and that benjamin played better. eventually it'll sound like the truth to one other person. if you watched the games AND look at the stats, you see a team that was pass first and targetted 3 guys routinely. benjamin was one of those guys. the bills went run first and had 200 yards rushing. why deviate from a plan that works?

evans was targeted 9 times with 5 catches. and his long catch for 11 yards must have been quite a game changer.

watkins on the other hand 3 of 4 and people watching the game saw an overthrow on the one pass. and he had a 25 yard gain on 3rd and 5 in a tie game.

again, you claim to be so brilliant in your statistical analysis, but then it just seems like you don't actually watch the games.

Well, you are WRONG. Pegula buying the Bills is as absolute an insurance as you can get in this World that the Bills are not moving.

As far as a new Stadium, the NFL may want one & Pegula most likely does as well, but if the Bills new owner is happy with an old Stadium, there is nothing the NFL could/would do about it.

Just look at San Diego & Oakland, the NFL is not forcing those teams to move.

And where did I not say the Bills were not going 10-6?

Dude, quit putting words in my mouth. Kelvin Benjamin clearly had a better game than Watkins, how TF can anyone argue to the contrary. You're so dishonest in your posting that it reeks.

I realize your emotional immaturity level to not be able to cope with contrary opinions than your own, but denying reality is the dumbest thing.

Otherwise, WTF isn't sinking in here for you trapezeus? Seriously, where are you hanging up. I'll put my life on hold to explain this simplest of concepts to you.

Once again, it's not about whether or not Watkins played better or worse than Evans or Benjamin, or any other WR taken in this draft for that matter, in any given game.

It is entirely about whether or not trading two (2) TWO 1st-round picks, get that, two (2) TWO 1st round picks, was worth it over just drafting a WR like Evans or Benjamin otherwise.

Are you really struggling with this, or just trying to be the ******* that you like to be anytime you see my name pop up?

I'm thinking that few people can possibly be that dense to not understand that really simple thing. Apparently you are struggling mentally with it though. So please, tell me that you understand it.

A new poster here threw out the concept of opportunity cost at which I partially joked about no one here understanding that concept when applied to player acquisitions, but you make the point clearly, you truly don't seem to have any concept of opportunity cost.

and the simple concept t hat your one game analysis that wasn't particularly good is too early to decide anything.

your brilliance shines so bright that it makes sense to no one. I agreed that trading up for watkins on a team that is just looking at the playoffs seems absurd.

but your gripe with watkins is that he sucked in college and was a product of a gimmick offense. you have stated in the past that he is bad and has no hope. and you use this one week performance to suggest you are on to something.

he was in line with where he should be. no drops, caught what was given, made a big catch on third and 5. the other two you have been peddling have done about the same. KB was intentionally targeted as a big part of the game plan.

i know you are a genius and all, but maybe more than a game before we annoint you king of the message boards.

give us more of your knowledge, fletch. a whole estatic message board is happy to debunk your nonsense. for dense, you've managed to take a season opener and think everyone sees playoffs. repeatedly people tell you they were just excited a bills team answered the bell when it was needed most. you know, like how good teams do.

we've seen teams piss that bears game away routinely over 14 years. but this one didn't. warts and all, this team got the job done.

and when that's brought up you go to sammy watkins. a guy who can't help how he ended up on the team, but has shown a strong training camp and had a good first game.

on a day a new local owner is announced you mentioned, "not out of the woods yet!" because a stadium deal wasn't announced lock in step. the guy funded the harbor center himself. he follows his passion. he has 6-10 years for a new stadium.

keep your predictions up with all your facts...they are really very accurate and kind of bring good things to bills fans. give us the fletch miami analysis and how badly the bills will get beaten.
