Surviving the off-season is the NFL's latest challenge. Training camps are just around the corner, and they couldn't arrive too soon.

At least two players—Minnesota running back Michael Bennett and Carolina wide receiver Kevin Dyson—were injured so seriously during off-season workouts they may miss this season.

Two rookie defensive backs—Cincinnati's Dennis Weathersby and San Diego's Terrance Kiel—and Dallas defensive back Keith Davis all were shot in incidents that suggest being a defensive back during the winter is more hazardous than during the fall. All are recovering and expect to play this year, although Kiel underwent unexpected surgery Wednesday. New York Jets defensive tackle Josh Evans is not expected to play this season or anytime soon, suspended by the league for violating the substance-abuse policy for the third time, which is not a charm....
