Let Spiller return kickoffs all day long. Punt returner too?

I hate to say this, but Spiller just doesn't have the, "field vision," that Fred Jackson has.

Blame the guards? Fred Jackson hasn't had a great guard to run behind since when?

Anthony, "Boobie," Dixon at running back anyone?

Spiller can't block. He can't run between the tackles either.

Jackson had to come in (again) and take over the starting running back duties against the Bolts put 8 in the box daring EJ to throw.

The Texans are going to do the same thing.

Hackett has taken a lot of heat for Spiller's play, but if Hackett is the problem then why has Fred Jackson done so well in his offense?

I'm still astonished that Dixon wasn't in on that 3rd and 1 that Spiller ran straight up the middle to lose 2 yards.

You signed Dixon to get short yards. USE HIM. If not, give it to Jackson, who has the nose to get 1 yard. NOT SPILLER.

GAH I'm still pissed about the play yesterday...

After Freddy goes beast mode for the TD, how the hell is he not in there for the biggest 3rd and short of the game? Hackett and Marrone have no clue how to use their personnel

They're not rewarding good play. They're being insane, attempting to do the same thing over and over again expecting different results.

Freddie got banged up on the previous play from what I saw.

Sitting Spiller would be moronic as well.

Sitting Spiller would be moronic as well.Fred caught a pass over the middle the previous play. I don't know about getting hurt but they might have thought he didn't have the freshest legs. Still, why not have Summers lead the way for Dixon?

And if that failed, they would have gotten heat too. But one thing's fer sure. No one would be wondering why they didn't run CJ out of a lone back set right into the line.

Believe me, I thought that was a dumb play-call too...to have Spiller go up the middle on 3rd and short. Just answering the question. Fred got dinged up and had to get out of the game for a bit. This seemed obvious to me.

Some people's attitude towards Spiller makes no sense to me, though. He's a good player, so you play him.

Freddie can't handle full time duties. He's to old. He should be in there on every big play though.

Chan Gailey would be proud of this thread/question.

Spiller needs a rest from being told to run directly up Eric Wood's ass every time.

For all his faults, Gailey was great at using Spiller correctly. Watching Hackett mishandle him all the time is maddening.

I am actually amazed at how Spiller can't break a tackle to save his life, and also how he can't make a person miss when it's one on one. How many times have we seen him hit the second level with a defensive back one on one and the DB take him down without any help? I loved Spiller before. Thought he had the potential to be a great back in this league. But his inability to see/hit/choose the right hole on the line and his inability to make guys miss is a complete head scratcher to me..........

He made Brent Grimes whiff big time.

Just another player we drafted too high.

Agree, and for that matter, they have Summers to use also. Beat people up before sending Spiller between the tackles if you absolutely have to, or get him out there in space with plays specifically meant to use him.

Makes me crazy that we might re sign him and still don't know what to do with him besides run him into the line.

I don't think we re-sign him. Bryce Brown was brought here to replace him. Yet he's not getting any playing time this year because if he gets it and if he performs it would mean giving the Eagles a higher draft pick. Of course it wouldn't shock me to see CJ end up in Indy or Carolina next year and be a Pro Bowl performer since he'll have less pressure to perform with an above average QB.

Throughout Fred Jackson's entire career as a Buffalo Bill, he has never had an above average quarterback, never had a great offensive line, and has dealt with nothing but pressure and competition for how many years?

Great running backs are great running backs.

Barry Sanders never had much to work with in Detroit, but he was still a great running back.

Not comparing Freddy to Barry, but I think people get the point.

If you're good, you're good, and don't need a strong supporting cast to prove it.

and Barry was good enough to get the Lions to a few playoff games and lead the league in rushing. Freddie Jackson is closer to Chris Warren than Barry Sanders. and PS the comments that you're referencing I was making into the regards of re-signing Spiller. FJAX is already under contract for next year.

Bruce Brown looked good last year with the Eagles as well as this preseason. It only makes sense to healthy scratch him.
