    Lions could seek help on defensive line

    Elliss might not play in exhibitions because of torn pectoral muscle
    ALLEN PARK -- The Lions might look for backup help on the defensive line as insurance against a torn pectoral muscle that could cause tackle Luther Elliss to miss the exhibition season.

    The prognosis is for Elliss to be ready when the Lions open the regular season against the Cardinals at Ford Field on Sept. 7, Coach Steve Mariucci said Wednesday.

    But Mariucci might look for veteran help in case Elliss is not available.

    "He was here immediately (after the injury) with an MRI," Mariucci said. "Our doctors felt, after looking at the MRI, he didn't need surgery. He's going to rest and rehabilitate his pectoral.
