He got the game ball but honestly why would he during an orton victory. I understand if it was EJ and he got the ball for developing him but not Orton. Also with how our gameplan changed during the last quarter and with Downing calling plays from hackett, i wonder if a switch was made. A lot of shotgun and more screens were in the second half so i do wonder of this is why Downing got the ball. We ran a basic spread offense the whole 4th which we never do.

Also did anyone see how smart of a play that 2point conversion was. We lined up and the detroit D had a goaline package out. Orton with about 10 seconds audibled to more of a spread look which made the defense widen and opened up the interior. Then he very quickly snapped the ball and gave it to Freddy for a very easy 2 yd conversion. Smart play

From what I understand, Downing relayed all of the plays from the sideline into Orton after Hackett called them from the booth.

Yes but with orton, shwartz, and brooks. Why downing?

If that 2pt conversion was a planned switch, brilliant maneuver and design by Hackett. If it was an audible, brilliant call by Orton.

Downing got a ball because he had been a Coach in Detroit.

Simple as that.

He got the ball because he brought Orton up to speed. The 2 point conversion was an Orton audible, Hackett had called a pass.
