    DL Production breakdown

I was bored so I decided to do a little research on the 8 players who rotate in and out of the DL. I divided the 8 guys between the 'Rotational' DL (Bryant, Charles, Wynn, Lawson) and the 'Starting' DL. For everybody that doesn't want stats for individual players, the combined stats are:

130 Tackles, 25 sacks, 7 batted passes, 4 forced fumbles and a pick on 533 plays run by Bills' opponents. This means that the Bills DL players make about 30% of the plays on Defense.

As you'd expect, the starters are better than the rotational guys at everything, except batting passes. I couldn't find numbers on tackles for a loss or tackles for no gain. The tackle numbers given are solo and assists combined. Individual player stats are listed below, along with total stats for the Rotational and Starting DLs.

    DT Corbin Bryant
    7 Tackles, 1 Sack, 1 FF

    DT Stefan Charles
    10 Tackles, 1 Sack

    DE Jarius Wynn,
    13 Tackles, 1 Sack, 2 batted passes

    DE Manny Lawson
    14 Tackles, 1 Sack, 2 batted passes

The Rotational DL has 44 tackles, 4 sacks, 4 passes batted and a forced fumble.

    And the starters for comparison:

    DT Kyle Williams
    20 Tackles, 2.5 Sacks, 1 Int

    DT Marcell Dareus
    27 Tackles, 7 Sacks, 1 batted pass, 1 FF

    DE Jerry Hughes
    28 Tackles, 5.5 Sacks, 1 batted pass, 1 FF

    DE Mario Williams
    21 Tackles, 6 Sacks, 1 batted pass, 1 FF

The Starting DL has 96 tackles, 21 sacks, 3 batted passes, 3 forced fumbles and an Int.

When I've got some more free time I'll try to find tackles for a loss and run stops by DL players.

I think the production metrics should be calculated based on play percentages.

I'm not really a numbers guy, but I like what I see with my two eyes.

The Bills not only have a GREAT Starting DL, there is not much drop off when the back ups come in.

Yes, tackles or sacks per snap is the only info with any value.

My concern right now is going to be whether we can keep both Dareus AND Hughes on that dline.

Might have been a problem doing that when Ralph owned the team, I don't think it will be a problem with Pegula as owner.

The Bills have cap space & a lot of dead money coming off the books after this season.

Spiller will come cheap and we're free of Fitz's dead money. Pay Hughes and Dareus.

Thanks for the write-up. We're a FS and a CB away from having the best D in football
                Oh no!...We suck again!

It gets worse, we're still paying Mark Anderson.
Buffalo Bills salary cap, contracts, bonus money, dead money, and cap savings for every player

                    Stevie Johnson-$10.2 Million
                    Ryan Fitzpatrick-$7 Million
                    Mark Anderson (the ****?)-$3 Million
                    Rian Lindell-$1.4 Million

That's $22 Million in dead money that comes off the books next year! Now granted it doesn't go straight into the piggy bank for new players because of how everybody's contracts are structured, but there's going to be some extra slack in the budget.

add 6.8 million to that when we cut Mike Williams
