The Texans have made a change at quarterback.

Ryan Mallett (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6470/ryan-mallett) is the new starter in Houston, coach Bill O’Brien announced today. Ryan Fitzpatrick (http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/3240/ryan-fitzpatrick), the veteran who has had a mediocre start to the season, moves to the bench.

“I just felt like in the best interest of the team (http://www.houstontexans.com/news/article-2/Ryan-Mallett-now-the-starter-at-QB/f96b2f16-07b9-40cd-9c79-7819983111f2), this is the decision I needed to make,” O’Brien said.

The move has been talked about for weeks and comes as no surprise, as O’Brien has long been a fan of Mallett’s. The two of them worked together in New England, when O’Brien was the Patriots’ offensive coordinator. The Texans sent a sixth-round draft pick to New England to acquire Mallett in August, and now the Texans will find out what they got for their pick.

Houston is on its bye this week. Mallett will get the first start of his NFL career next Sunday in Cleveland.

Always said he was nothing more than a decent back-up.

True about Fitz but no one even knows if Mallet is even a decent backup...let alone a starter.

Mallet was a major choker during tight games at Arkansas.

They probably feel they're a point where they can give him some live game reps and see what they have. Three or four games ought to tell them whether he's worth keeping and developing further.

LeSean McCoy says that this Texans team is the worst he has ever played on.

Interested to see what Mallet is all about after being on the bench for 3 years.

Doesn't he play for the Eagles?

Maybe he meant Arian Foster?

I wish the Texans were still on our schedule and we had played @Denver week 4 instead.

Are you sure you don't drink?

McCoy said the FIELD in Texas was the worst he has ever played on, not the team.

Fitz is your prototypical backup QB. He can fill in for 1-6 games and keep your team around .500 , asking for anymore then that and your setting yourself up for failure.

O'Brien should already know what Mallett is capable of, he was there when they drafted him.

Mallet is a free agent after the season. He could set himself up nicely if he plays well

He has not played at all in the regular season.

Surprising, given all the opportunities the Pats* could have played him & didn't when they had a huge lead or games that did not matter.

Trent Edwards was a very good practice QB. He was God awful when it mattered.

Edwards was playing decently before he got his noggin' shaken in that Cardinals game.

I still think Fitzpatrick is going to be a cutting edge brilliant OC where he doesn't have to use his arm any.

And Losman was playing decently before Wilfork took out his knee with an ILLEGAL hit.

DAMN CHEATING Pats*

Well. IDK. That could be looked at as a favor. Seeing where Losman ended up with his NFL career.

And it could be looked at as a favor as well in Trent's case.
