Kouandjio awaits chance to prove himself

Rookie Cyrus Kouandjio, who has yet to play a game for the Buffalo Bills this season, said Friday that he has had “a lot of reps” in practice as the starting right guard, although it is unknown whether he will take the job from veteran Erik Pears for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Coach Doug Marrone said Kouandjio “absolutely might” be active for the Chiefs’ game.

Will the second-rounder get a chance to address his premature 'bust' label in the second half of the season?

Hope he got rid of his cement shoes.

      LOL @ "absolutely might."

I'd definitely maybe like to see him play.

Might still be too early, but I'd really like to see what this kid can bring to the table on the interior.

            Premature bust label?

When was the last time a 2nd round draft pick didn't even dress for the first 8 games of his career then turns out to be a good player?

And it's not like we are loaded at his position. We've struggled at G and he can't even get a seat on the bench, let alone some game snaps.

                Just a terrible draft pick.

Well, not under the exact scenario, but once the draft is done what round a player was taken in is pretty much irrelevant. Evan Mathis, a Pro Bowl G for the Eagles, was a third round pick, and only started one season out of his first seven, and only dressed for half of the games his rookie year. Pretty sure he's been considered one of the best guards in the league since joining the Eagles.

Some guys take a little longer than others, and tossing anybody aside after 8 games is ridiculous.

Re: Kouandjio awaits chance to prove himself

Well are the negative nancies suggesting we dump him and move on? To me, you gotta see if he can improve this year, next year, and perhaps 2016.

That said, everyone passed on him through the first round. Whaley is going to have the rep as a "reacher" given the 3 o-linemen he picked. The question is if he fails on 3 or 4 before he hits on a Sentrel Henderson, does he get a pass?

First, I'm not a "negative nancy." I'm a realist, and the reality is that player drafted in the 2nd round who don't dress for their first 8 games rarely turn out to be decent players, especially if they're not dressing even as their team struggles at their position.

Second, I'm not suggesting we do anything. There is nothing to gain by dumping him now. Keep him at least through training camp next year and see what happens. I'm just saying that odds are the bust label isn't premature.

I am a realist. You are a negative nancy.

And sometimes with offensive linemen it is a matter of finding the right spot for the the guy to excel at the next level. It's not always the same spot they manned in college.

Hmmmm. More proof of the impatience of so called "realists".

The truth is that some players don't adapt as quickly to the pro game. I believe Kuoanjio had some injury problems his senior year, who's to say they didn't linger.

But, lets label him a bust with little information other that he hasn't made the game day line-up

I'm sure when Opie came out of college, he had a learning curve when he started in the pros...

Oh wait, he couldn't even make his high school team.

Eggs & Home Fries for the team breakfast. Practicing his future career.

What do you consider draft choices cut as rookies after camp, ridiculous cuts?
