This watch is a bit overdue as Eichels chances of being a Sabre are 80% so how can we not track him as his college season goes on

A this point Eichels draft stock is.. Solidly in the Number 2 spot..Compared to 4 months ago Connor McDavid has pulled away from Eichel for the Number 1 spot but Eichel is still ahead of Hanifan. Last night Eichels BU team played Hanifans BC team a and American scout who I respect thought Eichel was definitely the best player on the ice.. In the big showdown agasint Boston College Eichel had 1 goal and should have had 2 assists as his linemate missed 2 wide open nets on 2 great setups from Eichel

It is kinda unfair to compare Eichel to McDavid so as a comparison where would have Eichel gone in previous years

2014..Eichel definetly goes No.1
2013.. Mackinnon goes No.1 but it is close
2012.Eichel goes No.1
2011..Eichel definitely goes No.1
2010..Eichel goes No.1 over Hall but it is not a slam dunk..
2009..Tavares goes No.1 and Eichel goes No.2

Whatever team drafts Mcdavid I think it is at least 50/50 probably closer to 70/30 that team will win at least one cup by the time McDavid is 25.. Eichel would be harder to quantify... Patrick Kane has Jonathan Toews Eichel would need Sam Reinhart to be Toews like and/or Risto and Zad would have to get to or close to the Keith/Seabrook level

So far this season Eichel has 5 goals and 5 assists in 6 games.. At a 1.6667 PPG pace he currently has the highest PPG in the NCAA Division 1 hockey

McDavids 2.56 PPG is historic... Mcdavids 2.56 PPG is the highest in the last 20 years in the OHL.. The 2 closest to McDavid were Patrick Kane 2.5PPG in 2006-2007 and Robby Schrempf 2.54 in 2005-2006.. The OHL goes through ebbs and flows over time where scoring is higher than in other eras and it looks like now the scoring is higher compared to 4 or 5 years ago.. Still for Mcdavid to be O.56 PPG higher than Mitchell Marner who is at 2PPG is a huge and historic differential

Jack Eichels PPG 1.72 Is the 3rd highest in the last 10 years in he NCAA.. And the Eichel is a freshman the 2 players who had higher PPGs one was a senior the other a junior

So yes McDavid is a "once a decade prospect" and if Mcdavid didn't exist Eichel along with Nathan MacKinnon and John Tavares would be 3 of the best prospects in the last 7 years

Spiked knows this and is terrified by the sabres getting a uber talented player hence his hourly rants on here and everywhere else he is complaining it absolutely sickens him the Sabres are trying to set themselves up to get a once a decade player

Well the only players who have been on the OHL exceptional status list allowing them to play in the OHL at 15 were Tavares, Ekblad and McDavid. Pretty good company.

Also in any other year, Eichel is #1.

This game was Eichels best by far in the tournament.. Completly dominant at both ends of the ice... Saturday night BU plays Providence for the National Championship

he's smooth with the puck. great possession. he did this thing behind his own net on a powerplay with ND trying to get him to cough it up, and he effortlessly toyed with the 2 guys. he always had control and then took off.

i don't see blazing speed, or at least he didn't showcase it, but he looks confident on his skates. an odd statement, i know, as most D1 kids are "confident" skaters. But to me, it means he seems to be skating in a way where the game is moving much slower and he just sees it better than other guys on the ice. While other guys have to race to points and react quickly, he's anticipated it and got there early. it's hard to explain, but it just seems like everyone is sweating, and he's playing with kids.

if he's the consolation prize for last place, i can't wait to see mcdavid.

There is no doubt that he will be an excellent player so getting either is awesome. You might have a bigger offensive upside with McDavid though.

I like the idea of eichel being like tavares, just with better wheels. Tavares is an average skater, maybe even slightly below. That's his biggest flaw.

I also saw eichel compared to modano, but they may have been saying he's the best US prospect since him.

Coach put him in for a defensive zone face off in a one goal game with a min left which says a lot I think. He looked good and definitely not out of place. He did get muscled off the puck a few times in his own end but the strength will come as it does with all young players.

not necessarily. some guys just need more than a year in the AHL before they make the show full time.

armia's rookie season was one big struggle bus for him. it finally clicked for him at the end, his production increased. then the playoffs came, and he was outstanding. 6 points in 5 games. he continued that into this season and produced well, until the trade when he just went cold.

i watched him in person several times with the amerks. one play stood out for me. he was reaching for a puck parrallel to the blue line, and it was in front of him. two griffin players were hounding him while the amerks changed. he fought off the two defenders, and an amerk got down low after changing. he fought off the two guys, got the loose puck, passed it to the forward who got low, who drew the defenders, and left a guy open in the slot, who scored after getting passed to. secondary assist, but he was a man among boys on that shift and was just bullish. he got two assists that game, including one on the OT winner.

he did something like that several times, creating time and space with his skill, stick handling through guys, or just muscling them out of the way.

My "source" was from a guy on WGR radio, so not terrible, but he we even seeming to say unconfirmed, so I wanted to make sure that everyone knows that it is just a rumor at this point.

Also interesting that he specifically mentions Buffalo which he must have some assurances he will be picked there.
