All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
I think Spiller has a player option, which means the final year of his contract is up to him and not the team. I don't know what the cap ramifications are if we cut him. But if it comes down to Hughes or Spiller, Hughes no question.
I'm not worried about Terry being cheap. I'm worried about Hughes walking and then Pegula overcompensating by giving $60 million to some average player because he manages 4 sacks in the playoffs.

You should worry about it.
The Sabres are 28th in payroll and have $15 million in cap room.
Not to mention that they have been one of the worst teams in the league since the ownership change.

Pegula made a HUGE mistake by not breaking down Regier's cluster**** when he first took over. He ended up with a bunch of overpriced players who were never going to win, some of whom he inherited (Vanek, Roy, Pominville, Stafford) and some of whom were his fault (Leino, Regher, ehrhoff).
He was left with no choice but to unload the contracts, and he was left depleted. No amount of FA spending would have made this team anything but a bubble playoff team.
Now, if we are still $15 mm below the cap in 2 years when the young guys are more developed, then I will agree with you.

took a playoff team the 1st year he owned them and blew them up to be the laughing stock of the league. Great job.
With that way of thinking he might as well blow up the Bills too since they are never going to win with Kyle Orton at Quarterback.
