Is a $5.2 million mistake, the final nail in Whaley's GM coffin?

Mike Williams not only will count against next year's cap, but the Pegulas will have to pay him $5.2 million because of another bad move by Whaley. Combined with his admission he was in on the EJ choice, the poor value trade for Watkins in what may be the best receiver draft of all time, and his wasted #2 on CK (not even Louis CK who at least could have given us some comic relief) and giant holes at QB & OG (thinking Chris Williams could be the answer at LG) why would any new owner, (and if he ends up with a consultant) or the consultant want the GM back? Also, if the GM goes the coach should go too.
A $5.2 million mistake coupled with other poor moves should make the #1 recommendation to Pegula: CLEAN HOUSE-fire them all from GM to waterboy.

      No.
The mistake was not trading for Williams.
The mistake was not playing Williams over Hogan.
      That's on Marrone.

I start to get worried when I am agreeing with Tackling Dummy, but he's spot on.

Hogan has developed into a very good slot receiver and deserved to the number 3. Mike Williams should have been playing instead of Goodwin and should have been used as a big WR in the red zone and third shorts.

              Yes, this is probably right.

So many after the fact people. There is no way the Bills knew they could get Watkins in the draft for sure.

On record I'm still against the trade they made for Watkins - I will change my mind if he develops into a HOF in his career. BUT I like Whaley's approach into the draft, not being backed into a corner in terms of what position he has to draft. I'd perfectly fine with a number of other WRs they could have drafted had they stayed at #9, or even traded down a few spots.

Marrone's rigidity is starting to look like the second coming of Gregg Williams....

For the last time, yes he is. Too much of a cap hit to assume. You can't keep denying facts simply because you don't like them. In dream land Mike Williams doesn't count $5.2 million on next year's cap & EJ Manuel will emerge as a top 10 QB in spite of the fact that Marrone & staff have admitted that Orton is the better QB, which doesn't say much for EJ.

The receiver is due $6.8 million in 2015, with a fully guaranteed base salary of $5.2 million. The other $1.6 million comes in the form of a $1 million roster bonus on the third day of the league year and a $600,000 workout bonus.

Given that level of financial commitment, the much more likely scenario is Williams clears waivers and the Bills place him on injured reserve. In that case, the Bills will be on the hook for $5.2 million in dead money on the 2015 salary cap if they cut him at any point before the third day of the 2015 league year (which they would to avoid the other bonus money).

They think Orton is the better qb right now. EJ could easily develop into a better qb and I suspect he will. But by all means, carry on . . . there's plenty on this board who will give a big hooray for your courage on this.

Yeah. And you might grow a set of balls on the back of your neck. EJ can suck them, because that's what he does. He sucks balls.

Well, it would be nice if Orton could grow a set of balls.

Sliding short of the first down on 3rd & one yd against the Broncos proves he doesn't have any.

The way you go on, one would think you are on the hook for that money.

If Mario cost $200 Million, it would not bother me at all.

I am HAPPY to have him on the Bills.
