When will HCs man up and smack their OCs with the clipboard?

I've seen it time and time again. A team down by a few points, and the OC abandons the run game. Regular season. Playoff games. The dumbest of peewee coaches know that you have to have some balance in play calls, know that runs - even if not successful, keeps a defense from assuming liberties. Keeping then "honest", as it is commonly said.

How is such possible at the pro level? These folks get paid a lot of $ for their so-called knowledge and expertise, their understanding of the strategies of the game.

What coaching staff thought process lets an OC get away with calling 13 total rush plays in a mostly close game until the end, while watching his opponent call 36? BUF was 13 rushes for 13 yards (!), the podunk Raiders were 36 for 140, for a fair but not spectacular 3.9 ypc average.

Hackett (and his enabler) Marrone called 49 pass plays. Lost the TOP by around 8 minutes.

IMO, this was a coaching failure. A critical loss since KC and BAL went down, and they knew their window was still open. Marrone is a culpable as Hackett.
Fiat justitia ruat caelum. Noli timere. Laus Deo.
