    Bryce Petty - QB, Baylor

I'm over it already. Thinking the Bills were going anywhere in the playoffs was a fun pipe dream while it lasted but it's over now.

Back to reality, Bills fans. It was a much longer ride this year than expected.

Fun season, but obviously time to turn the page.

We all know what the problem is. The Bills offense is horrible. I supported Orton as much as possible, but to put stock in him is like investing in the Russian ruble.

The Bills need to draft a quarterback every year until they get it right.

6'3 230 lbs, turns 24 years old in May.

    Strong arm, strong leader.

    Who would you draft?

What type of offense did he run? Will he be there late in round 2?

I don't follow college ball so take this with a grain of salt...his passes in this reel are usually a bit underthrown (receivers are reach back/slowing down slightly) Are you sure he has a big arm? Accuracy is more important by far so I'm not saying I wouldn't want him, but your comment about the strong arm seems a little generous given the footage (again, never watched him live so could be wrong)

I like Tenn's Justin Worley in later rounds, if healthy.

He has run a one-read, shotgun/spread offense in college, which has led to big production. He has the size and a good arm, but projects to day 2 of the draft because of questions about running a pro-offense. Basically, he is a project with tools.

Can we just have a normal pocket-passer? All the guys that run these spread or read option type offenses eventually end up sucking in the pros.

Baylor runs a true balls to the wall offense, unlike the fake balls to the wall offense Hackett was squawking about when he got here.

Most of their TD drives are under 2 minutes. They play as fast as Oregon. They bury teams.

They normally run 4 and 5 wide, emphasis on speed, emphasis on mismatches. But with all of that speed moving people deep, they are one of the better teams in the country running the ball, especially up the middle. They still average around 250 yds. per game rushing.

Art Briles ran this offense with RGIII, with a guy named Nick Florence and with Bryce Petty. All 3 thrived.

I'll take Art Briles before Petty. But I'd let him decide.

By the 26-27-60 QB rule for drafting QB's:

Sports Illustrated made the 26-27-60 rule in 2010 to help predict if quarterbacks would succeed or fail in the NFL draft. How has it done over the past three years?

He's got the 60% completions... Doesn't have 27 starts. Can he score a 26 on the Wonderlic?

Personally I think this is just an attempt at a measurement for success and that there is no sure fire methodology for determining success.

I'd take Petty in a heart beat and I'm not a religious Baylor follower...there was something about RGIII that didn't feel right.
Where else would you rather be than right here right now?

Can probably be had by us. The draft stock sits at 2nd - 5th by what I'm seeing.

he's a read option guy who never throws a pass to a 2nd WR... it's always first target or run. he doesn't read defenses, he doesn't know how to operate in a pocket, he can't take snaps from center. Lets just throw out every QB who exclusively runs a high school style read-option passing game. they aren't NFL prospects, nor should they be considered nfl prospects
My wife told me that if I had a dollar for every girl who found me unattractive, girls would find me VERY attractive.

                        MY WIFE SAID THAT!!!

problem is you can only draft what is available and alot of college teams

run either a spread or a read option offense.

just think schools like michigan used to produce an nfl qb every 2 or 3 seasons (backup or starter level) and what have they done since they started running a non pro style offense? they produced a RB for the jags

I like what I've seen when I watch him play, bu there's a reason he's not in the conversation with the top guys. Mechanics seem to need work and he's never going to be a top 10 guy for arm strength, but he seems to have a chance to develop into a quality NFL QB. I agree with the OP... we should be taking a QB every year until we get it right, Ron Wolf style. If he's the best we see with where we're drafting, go for it.

                              Basically this.

It's hard to ignore his highlight reel but that Baylor offense is so elementary its a big part of why RGIII has struggled to adjust, and why Nick Florence never got a legit shot.

Petty has good physical traits but you're talking about a guy who needs Aaron Rodgers like time on the bench behind a good veteran QB with a great OC in order to learn how to play in the NFL more than likely. He's not the guy you draft to walk into TC and be the immediate starting QB.
