Let's Play GM: Fix The Bills Offense In 8 Months Without Firing Anyone, Go

Everyone was calling for Danny Crossman's head last year, but it didn't happen.

It appears like nobody's getting fired.

    Proceed with caution.

The biggest problem the Bills had all season on offense in 2014 was their offensive line.

They couldn't run the ball. When's the last time the Bills didn't have a 100 yard rusher all year long?

If NFL teams can't run, defenses are going to concentrate more on the pass.

The Bills couldn't pass the ball. The run sets up the pass, but there was no run.

If the Bills want to pass the ball, they have to establish the run game.

Quarterback protection was a huge problem.

CJ Spiller can't block, as he demonstrated once again yesterday.

So what would you do if you could call the shots at OBD?

#1 Sign the best free agent offensive lineman available, or two.

#2 Sign the best free agent quarterback to compete with EJ Manuel.

#3 Draft the best offensive lineman available in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft.

#4 Draft a running back in the 5th round.

    #5 Let CJ Spiller walk.

    #6 Pray.

Rebuilding the Bills offense is all on St. Doug in 2015.

Drafting a rookie quarterback and expecting him to start the 2015 season for the Bills isn't going to happen.

3b---hire a QB coach/assistant OC to help Hackett grow into the big boy pants.

Still don't think the oline is going anywhere with Morris and Hackett working together regardless of the talent acquired.

They did. EJ, Kolb, Lewis, Tuel, Orton, Palmer...it isn't as easy a problem to solve as some would like to believe.

Crossman got a big infusion of talent on special teams and made a ton of progress this season.

But special teams were undermined by Marrone & his conservative nature.

If you were dealt an Ace of Spades at WR, 5 of Clubs at TE, 6 of Diamonds at Center, 8 of Hearts at tackle and guard, and a Joker at QB what would you do?

                Bluff?

                  I've won with worse hands.

Hughes was allegedly a first round bust, 'trading garbage for garbage' if I remember one specific quote correctly. Graham, a career back-up...Spikes a 'two-down liability'. Bradham was going to get cut. AW, MW, Dareus, Gilmore, McKelvin, Searcy et al all took their shots for under-achieving or being outright busts...some as recently as the midway point of this season. The only guys immune from criticism have been KW, and Alonso, and he was a non-factor all season. Pettine got them to play well. Schwartz got them to play great. Elite.

Kudos to Crossman for lobbying for a little more talent, and turning that unit around.

                  That's coaching.

The offense, despite being given a load of talent at the skill positions, started out with about three decent olinemen (Glenn, Urbik, Woods) and got an infusion of young talent that could have been better with proper coaching. They didn't...they got worse.

                  That's coaching.

EJ regressed. So did Lewis. Tuel flat-lined. Orton got 'booked' after four games.

                  That's coaching.

Paying the Colts a cool billion isn't going to work.

                      Paying Mark Sanchez $5 million?

                      That might work.

                        1) Trade for Matt Ryan: There are rumors that they might be open for a trade. I would easily give up to: two1st & two2nds (2016 & 2017 drafts). Maybe try to get back a bunch of thirds.
                        2) 2 Guards: get a guard in FA & Draft!
                        3) Resign: Spikes & Hughes
                        4) TE: draft top TE
                        5) DB: Sign top CB
                        6) S: Draft top prospect
                        7) T: get A tackle the draft

                        Coaches:
                        1) OC: hire tresmen
                        2) o-line specialist

They already did 3b before last season.

Fix the O-Line first, worry about the rest after.

I say that because they should be able to fix the O-Line. There's bound to be a decent guard available in FA, so go and get him. Maybe draft another one.

Supposedly Richardson and Kouandijo are actually starting to look much better, so there's hope there also.

Fix the thing that can be fixed, first.

On the bbmb, someone said that Woods talked about the fact that a lot of stuff appeared to be checkdowns. (On a radio show). Said that it was because the O-Line didn't do well enough to allow routes to develop.

                            Fix the O-Line.

Work for who? Sanchez sucks. 11 picks and 7 fumbles in 9 games this year on a very good team? You want to sign up for that?
