    Tag and trade Hughes?

I want to keep Hughes. I really do but would this get us the first rounder we need to go after a QB? I don't think we would get a #1 for Hughes. Anyone think different?

It's a good thought. It's very unlikely we keep Hughes and I am OK with that. A high motor guy who commits less penalties on 3rd down is going to put us in a similar situation.

Now the cap hit on tagging Hughes might be large a transition tag might be a better option.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
    It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I would. Someone will overpay for him and they might as well pay the bills.

I'm ok with that, maybe we can get a QB in return?

Did is anyone else shudder when they read "high motor"? I'm having Maybin flashbacks!
True fans want wins, not draft picks.

If we tag him, we have to be willing to fork out 14M if someone doesn't trade for him. He can sign it right away making it fully guaranteed.

I literally have zero recollection of him ever being on the field.

Right which is why I think the transition tag is more likely.

you would be lucky to get a 6th round pick if he was guaranteed 14 million

It isn't going to get a QB in the draft.

No one in the NFL is going to trade a 1st rounder for Hughes. lol
