I think he wants his $5 million the easy way - without OTAs, camp & pre-season. My money has him answering the call for another team when their QB goes down next season. He steps in again, collects his $5 million and gets to spend the summer with his family.

Hahhahhaha!! Agree on clothes. Considering that 98% of these guys go broke Id be getting every paycheck I could.

I can tell you in the real world it's always better to get a check every year than a lump sum. You manage your lifestyle a hell of a lot better.

although i don't disagree with you that this could be the case, this is how hard it is to find QBs that (if this is true) he is now acting like bret favre!!!!

I read somewhere that Orton has made $20 million in the NFL.

Anyway, he said that there is no way he'd reconsider his decision to retire.

What a ****ed up offseason it's been so far, and we're only 3 or 4 days into it. Our QB retires out of the blue when he's barely 32, and our Head Coach opts out of his contract with pay...something people didn't even realize was possible.

Head Coach and quarterback are the two most important things for a team to have IMO. We have neither at the moment, unless you think EJ has a shot...I'm not so optimistic about that. Things just very interesting.

That sounds about right. I don't remember him ever getting a starter's payday.

I think Marrone's decision was highly based on $$$. He can go somewhere else and sign a better contract with more longevity plus he gets $4M paycheck on top of it. He's in a situation where he can work one year and get paid for two. That is pretty big. Orton has little kids doesn't he? Like someone above said he's in the drivers seat now if anyone wants him to play for a year they are going to have to pay.
