Schwartz has already said he doesn't want another HC gig this year, and it appears like his words are being backed up by a lack of action on the part of his agent.

Both Schwart2 and his agent know he's more likely to get an offer if the Bills come after him rather than him lobbying the Bills for a job.

You're ALWAYS in a better position if someone has to chase you to work for them.

Schwart2 is letting his season speak for itself and keeping his mouth shut makes him look good.

I'll go back to 93-95 when he was with Cleveland under Belichick...it's ridiculous how many guys worked in Cleveland with that guy, btw...

Kirk Ferentz!

How about Nick Saban?

We've been looking for a consultant, so how about Ernie Accorsi!

I've wondered this myself!

The terror in this to me is Downing becoming his OC. His Detroit OC Linehan is working in Dallas not that Linehan/Downing were great shakes in Detroit anyway considering the talent.

He was emotionally immature during his first gig and it cost him his team, and eventually his job.

I saw almost none of that this season. He was energetic, intense but positive. And his team played with discipline and focus. The only hint there may still be a problem was the being carried off the field thing in Detroit, but I believe him when he says it was a joke during training camp and the players thought it would be funny.

OTOH, if he actually still carries that much spite for an organization that was pretty fair to him maybe he still has some problems. From where I'm sitting, he'd be an upgrade and shouldn't have much trouble recruiting an OC. Sure there's no QB (or pick), but they only need to be better than terrible, which isn't hard since the defense/ST gave them the best average drive starting field position. A reasonably coached Oline with Spiller and oldman Jackson should be able to accomplish that without much help (assuming...).

Didn't realize he'd worked with Crossman before in Detroit. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing though.

I don't know what Munchak might be like as an OC, but if Schwartz got the HC job and got him to come along as Asst HC and O-Line coach, that would be a good thing.

I'm starting to think that the best way forward, is for us to get one of the up and coming OCs, and have them take the defensive coaches as a job lot. Someone like Frank Reich, would probably not be put out by that, as he's pretty even keeled, and all about doing what's best for the team. But any of the other ones might be worth doing the same thing with.

I really dislike the notion that you have to dismantle parts of the team that are working well, just because you have a new HC, and imho, a good HC will see that that is the best way forward. A new HC who is an OC, will still get to bring in his guys for the Offense anyway, so it isn't like he's not going to have anyone he's not familiar with.

Linehan was hired to do the play-calling in Dallas this year. Look what happened. Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, and DeMarco Murray all had Pro-Bowl type years.

IRVING, Texas – Scott Linehan can coach offense. There shouldn't be any doubt about that. He did it in Minnesota, in St. Louis, in Detroit, and he's doing it again in Dallas.

Linehan also can coach quarterbacks. There shouldn't be any doubt about that,

Bill Callahan is still the official offensive coordinator for the Cowboys. Linehan is the passing game coordinator.

I think the question is, does Schwartz want to stay on if he's passed over for the HC gig? I'd guess a lot of these OC candidates would be more than happy to have him running the D.
