I figured he was gone as soon as I saw he was interviewing.

How can he be? Isn't that be considered a lateral move? He is under contract with the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills could allow him to take the job.

The NFL can't keep coaches from leaving and taking a college job. They only control the NFL.

They are still under contract are they not? What does that have to do with it being in the nfl or college? Under contract is under contract and it would be expected to finish out the contract. Am I wrong?

No you're not wrong. A contract is a contract. It would of been bush league to make him stay with his job here in limbo though.

Right. I understand he sucks and I don't care that he's gone but he did that to Schwartz.

Never wanted him here in the first place.

Running game regressed. Ol or RB or injury or pathetic gameplan? Im not sure but what I am sure of, Spillers pass blocking was atrocious and he is still running East West on simple dive plays. Its probably safe to say its Spiller and not Wheatley but it seems he should have helped correct that. Good bye.

Most, if not all, of the offensive coaching staff is on the chopping block anyway.

I honestly do not expect anyone from the offensive coaching staff to survive once the new HC is hired.

Downing (the QB coach) might if Schwartz is named HC as he had the same position in Detroit.

Wheatley was probably going to lose his job with a new coach.

He returns to his school where he is very popular and has financial security for a few years. Good for him.

He can quit is job, contract or no contract.

The NFL has laws that make other teams honor the terms of contracts signed with other members of the league, but colleges are not bound by that. Bobby Petrino quit on the Falcons and went back to college before the season was even finished, as Lou Holtz did to the Jets. If the coach wants to quit and the college wants to hire him, the contract doesn't stop it. You can't quit to go to another NFL team, but you can leave for college.

Isn't his kid a senior out at West Seneca HS? I bet he is getting a scholarship from Michigan to play there and this gives his father a chance to be with him. His kid played at Fayetteville Manlius in Syracuse before moving to Buffalo to be near his father. He played TE. Big kid. 6'5" 250+.
