Dick LeBeau resigns from Pittsburgh Steelers
...The longtime Steelers (http://www.nfl.com/teams/pittsburghsteelers/profile?team=PIT) defensive coordinator told the Urbana Daily Citizen that he is resigning (http://www.urbanacitizen.com/news/breaking_news-home_top-sports/151169476/LeBeau-resigns-as-Steelers-defensive-coordinator)."I'm resigning this position, not retiring," LeBeau, 77, said. "I had a great run in Pittsburgh. I'm grateful for all the things that have happened to me and thankful for all the support I had in Pittsburgh."...

Wow, can't believe he resigned from the Steelers.

There's no reason to bring him back to Buffalo. Bills defense doesn't need much help.

he returned to the steelers from the bills bc he lives in pittsb and didnt want to be away from home to work. so my question now is what is he leaving pittsb and will he just go back again when whatever changed for him there changes again

It's simple: the Steelers are promoting Keith Butler to DC who they have promised the DC job (when Lebeau retires) when they blocked him to interview DC jobs last year and the year before. Well LeBeau has said he's not going to retire on a bad note (in terms of defense performance) but the Steelers can't defer this any more with several defensive coordinator openings in the league.

good explanation

so i wonder if dick just wants to coach another year or two just to end on a high note? his defenses are almost always great so some team will be fine with that if thats the case

Give him the DL job if Pepper leaves.

Give him the DC job if Ryan is the HC.

That's where the friction is. Dick does not want to go, YET. But the Steelers with expected big personnel turnover on D side, think it's time. They could potentially do more 4-3 now where Tomlin's background is. We'll see how they draft and do FA this off-season. I have said before, since Whaley left, they haven't drafted a single high impact defensive player (Kiko's level), relying on old guard like Polamalu. The one impact guy they got is FA James Harrison and had to get him back last season after they thought they could let him go 3 years ago (he spent two year in Cinci).

In Pittsburgh, people are talking about just throws the entire draft at picking secondary players much like we are talking about picking QBs.

He's gotta be retiring.

It just wouldn't be good here. Ryan likes his 4-6 hybrid, Lebeau is 3-4, we run a successful 4-3. I don't know he'd want to be just a DL coach.

He's 77. By the time we gave him personnel for a useful 3-4 he'd be 80, and they'd have to break their successful 4-3 to do it.

But oh, someone will make a good use of the man to tune themselves up.

He's gotta be retiring.

You'd think. But nah. He's aiming for the relaxation of his retirement years after 90 when he might take up a new sport.
